Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Wednesday, 6th Jul 2011 22:50

Former Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer looks set to complete his move to Portman Road next week. Talks with the one-time England international’s representatives have continued over the last few days with news of the Blues’ interest in the former Leeds, West Ham and Charlton man having broken over the weekend.

Earlier today, David Lee, an agent working for Skillequal, the company who represent Bowyer, appeared to hint that the 34-year-old was close to completing his switch to the Blues when he tweeted: “ITFC have a very interesting player signing soon!”

He later added: “Just to let the Ipswich fans asking I can't say who the player is but [the] deal should be done next week!”

Free agent Bowyer is currently understood to be on holiday abroad and could sign on the dotted line on his return, in time to be involved in next week’s two-game pre-season tour of Holland. TWTD understands that the Blues could also sign another player in time to make the trip across the North Sea.

Despite some fans reacting angrily to the news of Town’s move for the controversial Londoner, a TWTD poll currently sees 71% of fans backing his addition.

If Ben thatcher can get signing I'd easily take bowyer was brums best player last year by a mile will do the business as long as his head is right and easily replace all of Norris 10 goals in carling cup and like 1 in the championship

Bowyer was a racist thug, but people grow up and Bowyer was good enough for Sir Bobby at Newcastle so he is good enough for us now. Sir Bobby was a good judge of character and the whole Bowyer trial would have changed most people. Lets hope he can provide the midfield class we've been looking for and that he has changed.

As long as he keeps his cool on and off the pitch i think he can be one of the best players this club has signed in years. I can see how people feel about him, but i think everyone deserves a second chance.

If this signing does indeed happen then it is brilliant. Bowyer looked good in the Prem last year, in the Championship he will be sensational. Ok it's short term but we need to get into the Prem and he is exactly what we need to help us get there. This is a real statement of intent from PJ and ME and with more to follow I am more optimistic about the forthcoming season than for a long while.

great news and I don't think p.j would entertain a player who would cause the team problems on or off the pitch (in pj we trust) So who is the other player thats being mentioned (or not) personally i think it's bullard, any ideas?

A bad move, in my opinion. Whilst I agree that we need some grit in midfield, I think that Bowyer is the wrong type of grit. Too much off-field controversy for my liking.

great signing. Can certainly replace Norris' goals. If does the business on the pitch NO ONE will care about his previous bad behaviour. COYB

This David Lee (Skillequal), his last tweet was in september 2009.

The announcement has been delayed because of the need to shroud the Robson and Ramsey statues outside the ground. The statues will be uncovered when this nasty piece of work leaves our club.

There's a big difference between grit & cowardly thuggery. Please don't keep saying 'what he's done in the past ...' - he hasn't changed - check last seasons antics. Following Thatcher & Keane if this happens it will be another sad day in the history of our club.
What you seem to be saying is that it doesn't matter if we kick the opposition off the park as long as we win.
