Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Wednesday, 6th Jul 2011 22:50

Former Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer looks set to complete his move to Portman Road next week. Talks with the one-time England international’s representatives have continued over the last few days with news of the Blues’ interest in the former Leeds, West Ham and Charlton man having broken over the weekend.

Earlier today, David Lee, an agent working for Skillequal, the company who represent Bowyer, appeared to hint that the 34-year-old was close to completing his switch to the Blues when he tweeted: “ITFC have a very interesting player signing soon!”

He later added: “Just to let the Ipswich fans asking I can't say who the player is but [the] deal should be done next week!”

Free agent Bowyer is currently understood to be on holiday abroad and could sign on the dotted line on his return, in time to be involved in next week’s two-game pre-season tour of Holland. TWTD understands that the Blues could also sign another player in time to make the trip across the North Sea.

Despite some fans reacting angrily to the news of Town’s move for the controversial Londoner, a TWTD poll currently sees 71% of fans backing his addition.

Hands up those that want promotion?

Hands up that want to be a nice club that finishes 15th or so in the championship and is happy to watch season ticket holders not renew and supporters dwindle?

Well the latter is the possibility unless we sign some of these nasty naughty people, guess what they win you games.

Sean Derry, I remember similar comments on here last season and look where he took QPR.

Sign him up and support the boys in blue!

he is a good player. whilst i don't want a team of sinner's he ,off the field has improved, on the field he is one of the type of player's who does like a tackle and has done a few bad ones however if you have watched Paul Scholes during his career he is praised to the heaven's but in my opinion one of the most dirtiest player's there has been. we are getting a fighter who scores a few , is relatively injury free and a good passer.

So not guilty.
Anybody else on this site ever had to pay £170k to settle out of court?
I'm buying a new mountain bike with the money I'll save not visiting PR this/next year!
Maybe I'll never return, I'm REALLY not comfortable with this.

People that are saying that they won't support the Town if he signs, how patheitc, who wouldn't want an experienced prem player to sign for their team.

I really can't believe some of the comments on here.

COME ON YOU BLUES AND COME ON BOWYER play like you can and make these mugs eat their words

Great signing if we get him. I personally think he would be good captain material, someone with fight and hunger. All those making statements about his previous history need to let it go, NOBODY IS PERFECT!!!!

Its about time we created more history,we need passion and winners or no more history for at least another 10 years.

We are all getting a bit excited aren't we! If and I do repeat if he signs for us next week, and a week is a long time for that agent to field calls from other interested managers who may want to try and trump our apparent offer, then watch this message board light up with those for and against him joining ITFC! For what its worth I am amazed that Birmingham have not tried to keep him. PJ clearly knows what he is doing, knows more about how to manage personalities on a football pitch and team dynamics than any of us and if he feels that Bowyer can do a job for ITFC and we are not paying over the odds for his wages then this could be excellent business, just the player to combat the likes of Nolan at West Ham for example. If Bowyer does come I am sure he will have some fine words to say about Sir Bobby Robson, his time under him at Newcastle and Sir Bobby's links to ITFC and the heritage of this fine club. You never know he might actually mean it or alternatively he still may sign for QPR next week instead!

Come on Bowyer sign on the dotted line .... Lol at the sad cases posting on here . Two birds with one stone i think , quality player in and s**t fans out (s**t fans being those who promise never to return to PR if this deal goes through) . If you dont like this deal then thats fair enough he's not everybodys cup of tea , but if you can say that you wont support the boys or you wont be coming to PR then sod off and find another team push your negative childish behaviour onto cos you sure int atrue blue .

Brockleyblueboy. I tried the reasoned approach like your good self & for my troubles got a load of grief from the moral minority who obviously have never transgressed in their lives. Totally agree with your earlier post, I for one really hope to see Mr Bowyer in a Town shirt this coming season. As for those of you who don,t like anything this club seem to or attempt to do, why don,t you all sit together in one section of the ground where you can tut, moan, grizzle & gripe to your hearts content & leave the rest of us to cheer on the lads.

Well, what can I add that hasn't been said...not a lot!

In the eyes of the law he was found not guilty unlike Woodgate and there is not much of a doubt that he's had his 'moments', for want of a better word, off the pitch.

But for those who are saying it's a new low for our club and things like not going to PR if he signs or won't cheer if he scores etc, well that's your opinion and your entitled to that, You are right that our club has principals but I believe they were predominantly set by the likes of Sir Bob and I feel if Sir Bob can be open minded enough to give him a chance at Newcastle then I'm sure as hell think that we can.

I used to work at the club, around 2001, and I can tell you players used to talk and a lot of my and your heroes are anything but whiter than white! Anyhoo, the point I'm trying to make is that there are more footballers like Bowyer than you think it's just that we seem to hear about all of his 'moments'.

Cannot see the issue with the signing of a hungry player who is willing to fight and scrap for the team he plays for!

The non issue of his past is long gone, lets it go people. COYB!

Some of the comments Ive seen on here defy beleif! Are people on here honestly naive to think Boywer is the 1st Ipswich Town player to have had a brush with the rozzers! At the end of the day it was years ago, he was dealt with at the time now lets not give it anymore thought and move on!

At the end of the day he's always been a good footballer, was excellent at Leeds for instance and is a player who, thrughout his career, has played at highest level throughout his career so will be a great addition to a squad that I feel is really taking shape now. However on a note of caution, I would say I hope this is the end of signing players well over 30. Dont get me wrong would love to see Bullard back as had great end of season here however he's also wrong side of 30 with much worse injury record and I'm wary of players these ages seeing it as 1 more pay packet although it would unfair to put that at bullards door as he was 100%er when here.

To all of those "I see no ships", "we don't like thugs unless he's OUR thug" , sweet naive innocents on here, who lambasted me for not doing my research on Lee Bowyer's criminal past, try this :

http://www.redcafe.net/f7/dirty-lee-bowyer-11219/

Apologies for the source, but it pretty much spells out 2 things :
a) Bowyer IS a convicted criminal, for a racist assault et al ;
b) He only escaped the GBH charge because he paid for a cover up.

The link you provided only sets out the opinions of people on a Blog, what does that prove.

As we all know many people settle out of court rather than get enmeshed in the legal process with the possibility of the costs being much much more. Even innocent people settle out of court rather than run this risk!

I will be very pleased if he signs but after our hopes have been dashed before I wont believe till I see the picture of him holding or wearing ITFC shirt
