Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week Wednesday, 6th Jul 2011 22:50
Former Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer looks set to complete his move to Portman Road next week. Talks with the one-time England international’s representatives have continued over the last few days with news of the Blues’ interest in the former Leeds, West Ham and Charlton man having broken over the weekend.
Earlier today, David Lee, an agent working for Skillequal, the company who represent Bowyer, appeared to hint that the 34-year-old was close to completing his switch to the Blues when he tweeted: “ITFC have a very interesting player signing soon!”
He later added: “Just to let the Ipswich fans asking I can't say who the player is but [the] deal should be done next week!”
Free agent Bowyer is currently understood to be on holiday abroad and could sign on the dotted line on his return, in time to be involved in next week’s two-game pre-season tour of Holland. TWTD understands that the Blues could also sign another player in time to make the trip across the North Sea.
Despite some fans reacting angrily to the news of Town’s move for the controversial Londoner, a TWTD poll currently sees 71% of fans backing his addition.

If he signs he will grace portman rd. He is the kind of player we have be crying out for for years. All the brain dead juding him from media speculation
i dont give a flying f**k what bowyers done in the ast hes a great player and is going to be great for this club as long as he plays well on the pitch i dont care what he does of it!!
for heavens sake, why do people keep coming on here and cant even get their facts right. the alleged racist incident is the only incident off the field that hes been accused of, and as has already been stated several times on here, unlike the other defendants, he was found NOT GUILTY. yes, hes overstepped the mark on the pitch on occasions, but hes hardly the only 1 to have done that is he. im guessing you wouldnt want for example, rooney to play for us then? as for those saying that this means dyer wont be coming back. thank god for that. what a total waste of money(wage) that would be. be lucky if he played more than 5 games for us. just get real people. as for the person going on about the statues being covered till he leaves the club? idiot, again as been said, bobby robson signed him for newcastle. doesnt that tell you something. no, prob not, as you clearly just like to be negative.
...with reference to your hero Beattie who has been such a flawless representative of our club. The man likes one too many drinks on a regular basis (being 'honourly president' of my local team we know this 1st hand), and following his comments made a while back on radio suffolk he's a mild racist at best. Being very close to those in and around the local media sports scene for many years i could tell you many stories about this and several other past players.
Do i care? No. Was he a great player? Yes. Will he always be a town legend? Yes.
My point is: get off your hypocrytical high horse and support the team put out on the pitch and keep your ill informed judgemental attitude about what any of our players did a decade ago to yourself!
He has always been a thug and always will be. I know he has ability but it's a sad day for our great club. It shows our lack of principles, but I am not surprised. We are scraping the barrel.
Imagine the headline at the end of may 2012 - "Bowyer nets winner in epic play off final against Birmingham"..................how many will hate him and not want him here then? hmmmmmmmmmmm
Like a lot of people have said here, he can't keep being judges for past problems.
He's a passionate guy, a little strong in the challenge but will be a quality signing (Not holding my breathe as until he is pictured holding an ipswich shirt I won't get too excited)
He who is without sin cast the first stone is what I say. Prime example in the press is the "model pro" rio ferdiand who was so critical of John Terry but turns out he was shagging anything with tits.
"Fans" moaned that we weren't winning anything. If this signing works out and he is instrumental to a promotion charge, will that mean you wouldn't cheer the team when they do a tour of the Twon to celebrate promotion. Course you will because for the majority of spineless, moaning fans, you just like being negative.
Can we please get behind the team this season and get a bit of posivity going. And the guy thatsaid Jewell out and that he won't support the team, get a life loser.
I for one am excited about the noises coming from PR and CAN NOT WAIT for the new season. Less than a month to go
blues1 you are spot on with your post!!! I just wish more people on here had some common sense.
BJM - your comment is worthless drivel. Who cares what he does off the field (which is not much compared to most) and if he is a so called thug on it. That is what we need badly; someone who can dish it out and get stuck in.
Bowyer is a quality signing and will do a great job in the Championship. He had an excellent season in the Prem last year and I would much rather have him in our side than Dyer. If PJ rated Dyer then he would have signed him already.
I am excited about the signings that PJ has so far made, with more to come. The dark clouds are beginning to lift from around Portman Road.
If this signing means that you no longer support Town, then you never were a true supporter. The club needs Bowyer, more than it needs so called supporters like you!!
Basil Smallpiece i think you will find that over 70% of fans would welcome a good player like Bowyer to the club if you had read the article ? Obviously you have led a mistake free life even in your teenage years some are less fortunate and learn by their mistakes ,luckily some of us are willing to give Bowyer the benfit of doubt if hopefully he becomes a blue .

WTF????
What planet are you on? Ever heard of reallity?
WAKE UP MAN!!!!!

If signing Bowyer keeps all the snobs and people who don't believe in 2nd chances and general moaners away from PR then that's a nice bonus on top of a brilliant premiership class midfielder added to our ranks. Bowyer shows passion on the pitch and we only want passionate fans who want to watch Ipswich Town do well at playing football as after all that's the idea of a football club.....winning football matches and entertaining which is what LB will help us do, this is a win-win situation :)
