Town Linked With Move for Fulham Keeper
Town Linked With Move for Fulham Keeper

Town are targeting Fulham keeper David Stockdale, according to reports in London. The 25-year-old is keen to go out on loan to gain experience with the Blues and Stockdale's hometown club Leeds said to be interested.

Earlier this month Swansea made an unsuccessful attempt to sign the former York and Darlington glovesman on a permanent deal but the Cottagers are only willing to discuss a loan deal, which would include a recall clause in case first choice Mark Schwarzer picks up a knock.

Manager Martin Jol confirmed that there are a number of interested parties: "We are talking to a few clubs because the conditions need to be finalised.

"We want to recall him if necessary because if something happens with Mark we need a back-up."

Stockdale, who is 6ft 3in tall, played youth football with Huddersfield before joining York's youth set-up, breaking through into the first team in 2003.

Having spent time on loan at Wakefield-Emley and Worksop Town, Stockdale moved to Darlington on a free transfer in 2006.

Impressive performances for the Quakers led to Fulham offering a fee which would eventually reach £600,000 after various clauses had been triggered in June 2008.

While at Craven Cottage, Stockdale has spent time on loan at Rotherham, Leicester and Plymouth and he has made only 13 starts for the Londoners, eight in the Premier League.

An England National Game XI player while in the Blue Square Bet Premier with York, he was named in the full England squad twice earlier this year but is yet to win a cap.

Town boss Paul Jewell has never appeared entirely convinced by first choice Márton Fülöp, replacing him with deputy Arran Lee-Barrett for a spell towards the end of the season before recalling the Hungarian.

Lee-Barrett, who signed a new two-year deal over the summer, and Fülöp, who was briefly linked with Turkish side Bursaspor prior to Scott Carson joining them, have both started games during pre-season.

Whoppit reminds me of my mother in law......

The more you try and understand what they may be going on about, the more you conclude they just happen to be a TW*T that you can't get rid of!

The central pairing were/are dodgy, perhaps this is because of a lack of confidence in the keeper. A keeper that commands the area and yells at the CB could be just what we need to get the best out of them.

Rather go after a commanding CB though.

Well dont hold your breath anyone. If Cleggs continued stab at wheeling n dealing via bottomed out offers for players continue , we'll be making do with what have have .

We gave ALB a two year deal? Oh my goodness - utter madness - who made that decision? Sadly, despite his effort he is nowhere near good enough and even struggled against Cambridge.

A new keeper would be most welcome, but need to sort out the defence first, as IMO Fulop is okay - whereas Smith is not good enough - nor is Edwards at right-back. These are two high priority positions.

Don't understand why we haven't given fulop more of a try. It's not like he has had an amazing defence infront of him, and you don't see the likes of spurs dropping gomes completely for a few mistakes! However i'd welcome stockdale.

A goal keeper, I thought we were waiting on news of a bid made on a striker it is thursday after all , but saw him at the end of last season and he would be a good addition.

Look. This is a load of rubbish. Richard wright has moved back to Suffolk only a couple of weeks ago (my removal company done the job) and has been training with the squad. He will sign and will probably be our first choice keeper. I'd be happy with that to be quite honest.

Would be a decent signing but hope we're not going to have to rely on too many loan players this coming season..in recent seasons the only ones I can recall being any good are Bullard & Gio.

What's happening with Richard Wright?..is he still training with us?

Without sounding rude, are you mentally challenged? The only negativity in my post is towards the unfair treatment of one of our players. What do you want me to do?!

The trouble is we got spoilt by having and losing 2 very good goalkeepers, one being Neil Alexander, and the other one a certain Asmir Begovic. !!!!

oh, & saying evans get your finger out is positive? weve signed 5 players so what he been doing already. yes we need more but sure we'll get them, as for selling wickham needlessly. rubbish, he had a clause in his contract that was triggered by sunderlands offer. a clause that would have been in his contract at his request. so, not sold needlessly, we had no option. so no, not braindead, just somewhat more knowledgeable than you obviously

How far is Cody Cropper from being called up as a sub goalkeeper. He is playing high class games on the international scene against some very good teams ie Mexico,Columbia,France He is the USA number 1 under 20s goalkeeper. He had a very good game last night saving a penalty for Ipswich and we have already signed him .May be well worth giving him his chance if he is ready. This would help our goalkeeping situation?

We don't need another pointless goalkeeper! Concentrate on signing, a winger, midfielder, striker, and center half before you waste money on another goalkeeper!
I would love to see the likes of Ricky Lambert, and Clarke Carsilse to come to PR!

Garv and blues1, c'mon now play nicely! Just kidding of course, but it's amazing that we all have a vast range of opinions but we all have the same end goal in mind being we all want ITFC to be successful. It is rather amusing sometimes though!

Anyway, like a few have already said I think a good defense partly comes with the knowledge that they have a sound keeper behind them and i'm sure that works the other way around as well so as long as they both get sorted i'm not overly bothered which way around it gets sorted. Stockdale is a cracking and i certainly wouldn't say no but I would prefer a permanent signing all the same.

Not a bad keeper, but I have to agree with alot of other posts, a loan keeper doesn't seem to be a great importance compared to other areas (RB, CB, CM, STR) A new QUALITY keeper would be a welcome addition, but not another loan one who can be recalled by his parent club, that just upsets the balance of the team. In PJ we trust to sign the right players, he hasn't let us down thus far!!

would rather go for players in other areas before we think about a new goalkeeper
