Left-back or midfielder Shane O’Connor has joined League Two Southend United on trial. The 21-year-old returned from his one-month loan spell at Port Vale at the weekend without making a first-team appearance for the Valiants.

Irish U21 international O’Connor, whose Town contract is up at the end of the season, is very much out of Paul Jewell’s plans with his only appearance under the current manager a 16-minute cameo as a sub in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final at Arsenal last January.

One-time Liverpool trainee O'Connor is set to feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Colchester today.

Dont forget he showed a little flare in a very poor Keane team on one or two occaisions thats about it. Maybe he turns up late every day , there must be something wrong cos if he was as good as people on here lead us to believe then he would be playing - Looked ok in the snow against Leicester , maybe we will pick him when there is 4 inches of snow on the pitch - move on - Cresswell , Carson and Whight are ahead of him

There is clearly something about the lads ability and or attitude that managers don't like as I'm sure he'd have pushed his way into the Port Vale side if he were that good, despite this some still think he should be starting for us, these ARE the same people who would criticise both him and Jewell if he did play and say had an absolute stinker!
