Luton Target Old Boy Drury
Luton Target Old Boy Drury
Wednesday, 4th Jan 2012 09:45

Midfielder Andy Drury has emerged as a surprise target of his former club Luton Town, who currently sit third in the Blue Square Bet Premier. The 28-year-old, who recently returned from a loan spell with League Two leaders Crawley, joined the Blues from the Hatters a year ago for a fee of £150,000, signing a contract until June 2013.

Luton manager Gary Brabin revealed that he has made enquiries: “I know Paul Jewell really well and spoke to Dukes [Drury] as well.

“At the moment Ipswich have called him back because he is back in their thoughts, so I’m sure they won’t want to do anything just yet.”

After Drury returned from his loan spell at Crawley, the Blues turned down a Red Devils bid which manager Paul Jewell said was half the provisional fee the clubs had agreed at the start of the loan.

The midfielder was back in the Town side on Monday, replacing the ill Jimmy Bullard at the last minute, but is unavailable for Saturday's FA Cup tie at Hull having played in the competition with his loan club this season.

I'd rather we kept him. He's no world beater, but at least he put in a decent shift against Forest. Did the simple things, neat and tidy, & passes usually went to someone in blue

Keep him as we need cover

At least Dury played with passion unlike Bullard who has gone right off the boil after getting himself a contract!

Totally agree Muhrens - he looked like the only one really putting any effort in, chasing down the ball and although he wasnt outstanding he certainly put the rest of our midfield to shame. Keep him and let him grow into the team - after all hes 11 years younger than most of our midfield!!!

Yer him and Jet where are only players to come out of last game with any credit. Some of his crosses and dead ball deliverys where good.

I guess the logic here is that it's better to have a young 'ok' player than an old one as younger players can still get better. I'm inclined to agree but people look for headline grabbing signings and as the club is in the entertainment sector the only way to achieve that is by signing 'big names'. This is a mentality we need to overcome.

SO guys but am i the only one thinking that Drury was the biggest flop yet!! PJ wanted to do a R.lambert by getting non league players to take them up!! unfortunately that worked but not for us! He really has been poor and can move on!!

Agree with Wickets and along with Edwards, Carson, Cresswell and Chopra would be the only ones from Saturday I'd keep. Drury tries to play attacking football and looks for a pass and had some bite about him too which makes him the best of the CMs IMO (sad but true). But priority us to get in a strong quick defensive midfielder and two CBS.

I've always liked the look of this guy, was disappointed to see him farmed out to Crawley when our own midfield under performing so badly. He has a creative spark and an eye for goal that we've been sorely missing, even more so now we're without Andrews.

Give him a run in the side after the FA Cup game and a chance to prove himself, I've got a feeling he'll surprise all the doubters out there.

AndyStannard, I think your talking out of your behind. He was the best player on the pitch monday. He chased every thing, wanted the ball and also his passing was good as well. I no there was alot of rubbish as well, but at laest he wants to play football and for this club as well. Keep up the good work Drury. Need a couple more like you in the squad....

Gary Brabin a mate of PJ's. Not to mention another clueless plonker from Merseyside.

Can't understand why PJ appears willing to let Drury go. He was PJ's first signing and from what I've seen he has never let him down, arguably the best £150,000 the club has spent for a few years.

Think he was worth a gamble but dont think he is really one who is going to take us anywhere.
He has never let the club down and is hard working and honest so do we get a few quid for him now or keep him to play 5 or 6 games a season.
If we get Andrews and Leadbitter signs a new contract, I cant see Drury getting in before them or Bullard,Martin,Carson etc

However is Andrews does not come and Carson and Leadbitter dont sign contracts we might just need him

We need to keep him, never stopped running against forest. he was our best player. he kept dropping into the space infront of the forest back four but we couldnt find him

Loan has helped him.

If he continues to play well, he gets in the team and stays there, simple as.

Got to keep him - It starts to really concern you if PJs signing start being off loaded so soon - Drury , Bullard ? , Chopra ? - who knows -
I personally would like to see a more exciting ( most under 30!)XI on Satday vs Hull - nothing to lose
Cropper , Cresswell , Smith , Sonko , Ainsley , Carson , Hyam , Martin , JET , Murray , Scotland - Lawrence , Whight , Wright , Drury , Chopra

I thought Drury has a good second half Saturday, but what was Jewell doing playing him as almost the second striker in the first half?! His wages must be cheap and is surely worth keeping for now as a squad player with a chance of holding a first team place if he does well.

We should defo keep him ,I feel he will be quite good in league 1 !!!!

Agree Cazzy - Not worried about Div One - Its the kick up the a#re our club needs - Sometimes it is best to start over than keep patching up .

Why would he want to drop into non-league now anyway?

DiamondGezzer added 14:26 - Jan 4
Blueherts :- The problem isn't the dropping down, it's the getting back up that worries me !

I am the only one who thinks he is not that good, an OK midfielder but slow and would never get in any decent Champ side, but knowing us we will let him go back to Luton for free.

AndyStannard he's played about 4 games for us! And looked decent. With more games he will improve his game at this level, it's a massive step up! I thought he looked really good on Monday, like he was actually trying to make something happen!

don't think he will be too helpful but he has done well in the few chances he has had and he seems to be doing better than other midfielders
Drury 150,000 Leadbitter £2,500,000
