Ellington Could Move for More Regular Football
Ellington Could Move for More Regular Football
Friday, 20th Apr 2012 19:59

Blues striker Nathan Ellington has hinted that he could move on in the summer in order to play football more regularly. The 30-year-old joined the Blues on a free transfer from Watford last summer, signing a two-year deal, but has made only three starts — only one in the league — and 14 sub appearances without scoring.

In an interview with Sporting Life apparently released via his agent, Ellington says he wants to be involved more often during 2012/13: "I still want to play football because I would love to be playing regular football again, but if it's not going to be here then I'll have to look at my options for next season.

"I might get a move - permanent or loan. There will be options out there but I'll need to speak to the manager to see how he feels and how he sees next season. I think we can take it from there really."

Ellington is disappointed by his lack of opportunities with the Blues: "I've not had as much game time as I would have wanted and I think that's the reason I've had such a quiet season. I wanted more involvement in the team but it's not turned out that way.

"It's been very difficult and there haven't been many reserve games either. It's difficult to keep the level of fitness you need if you're not in the first team or getting other match practice. It's a vicious circle really.

"At the time when we were struggling, the manager told me he couldn't afford to give me a run in the team to get going. He needed instant success because we were losing games regularly.

"Things changed and after I got injured earlier in the season, results have picked up - making it even harder to get back into the team. I've been waiting patiently but he's not wanted to change things."

Please go!
Sounds as if he's being 'managed out'.

It would be great if he went. No need for him here.

Wonder if he could end up being a makeweight in a deal, for instance if we are looking at Coppinger from Donny. Sure Ellington could still do a job in division 3.

Sorry Nathan, you didn't fit in here, all the best for the future.

It's a pity it didn't work out, but I can see why Jewell took a punt. 30 isn't too old and Ellington should have done better, but I suspect he will need to drop to League One now. At least he was free so we didn't blow a transfer fee on him, just the wages which I hope were not too high.

"the manager told me he couldn't afford to give me a run in the team to get going"

So he was brought in with Jewell knowing he was not good enough.

What's this 'get going' business as well ? He had all summer to get his fitness level up.

The whole club becomes more shambolic by the day.

Lets be fair though, we haven't given him a run in the team, i do sympathise with him. Jewell shouldn't have signed him if he was just going to be a squad player.

Never fulfilled promise early in career at Wigan. Found out at a higher level or self-destructed by WAGs and riches?

Total waste of space, was useless every time he came on. And an even worse scoring record than priskin!

He's better off leaving! Would rather put Ronan Murray closer to the subs bench next season!

Get a run in the team ... regular football ... what a total prune ...... reality is that he has been a has been for a good while and was not PJ's best signing!

A poor signing. Was on a terrible run of goal scoring form and a disappointing decision from PJ. Hope he moves on - for him and for us!

Hang on: do note this extract from the item in question above "It's been very difficult and there haven't been many reserve games either."

The whole dynamics of the terms of employment at our beloved club have shifted significantly over the past few years. reserve games were much more significant once upon a time.

Make of that what you will, but it doesn't help if posters on this site merely berate our footballers. A wider perspective is needed.

P.S. Martin 1212 etc.: you do make some very good points on this site but, please, do not shout as you type! Please use the lower case as all these upper case postings mean that most of your potential readers simply ignore you. You deserve more!

I watched him a few times for the Gas Heads when he was young, looked really good and will never forget the way he and Roberts took us apart on thier first game back together for wigan (and thats when we were half decent!), I seem to remember we were 3-0 down in 20 mins, due to thier pace and movement.

PJ should have known the gamble he was taking, shame it hasn't worked (yet?), maybe he will come good again eleswhere, shame it looks unlikely to be here.

martin121etc and Sibelius 8 - PLEASE!! Ellington is by far the worst signing that PJ made. He has played 15 games (not 3 marring 121etc), predictably coming on as a 70 minute sub most times. As soon as he came on the pitch, we lost any ability to hold up the ball or to threaten up front, notably when we were leading 2-1 at Forest earlier in the season. We lost 3-2. His first start against Palace was equally poor and really quite embarrassing. Is he still a professional footballer? A Watford fan shook me by the hand in the pub (as I was watching P'boro demolish us) and said 'thank you' for taking him off their hands. He lost his passion and desire to win years ago.
