Jewell at Welsh Coaching Conference

Blues boss Paul Jewell was in Cardiff over the weekend as one of the guest speakers at the Football Association of Wales and Welsh Football Trust’s National Coaching Conference.

On Saturday, Jewell, who had recently returned from his holiday, ran a practical coaching session entitled ‘Roles and Responsibility of a Back Four with Inclusion of Midfield Screens’ held at the Cardiff City Academy.

Amongst the other guest speakers at the three-day conference were Wales manager Chris Coleman, Huddersfield boss Simon Grayson, Port Vale manager Micky Adams and his first team coach Robert Page, and Crystal Palace assistant boss Lennie Lawrence.

More than 120 elite coaches attended the conference which was run by Welsh Football Trust’s technical department.

Technical director Osian Roberts was pleased with the quality and experience of the visiting coaches: “I’m delighted to have such a variety of highly qualified guest speakers delivering on elements of the youth and senior game.

“It’s fantastic for our Welsh-based coaches to continue to learn from coaches who have worked at a higher level and also to interact and share ideas with each other on the course.”

Blues boss Jewell previously gained his UEFA Pro Licence with the Football Association of Wales.

My thoughts too New Yorker although you in fairness to him, it's hard to polish a turd. We've lacked quality defenders for quite a while, yes he should have bought some in but he's had to work with what he's had. In the second half of the season with the new system we were better defensively but it still wasn't ideal.

Let's hope for some quality defensive recruits in the summer or another mediocre season will follow :(

People may scoff, but from the end of January onwards our defence was really quite good - ranking joint sixth in the Championship over that period and better than those of Birmingham, West Ham and Cardiff.

Town's "worst defence" tag really comes from those two games back in August, which heavily skewed the figures at an early stage in the season.

That this man should stand up and speak to an audience about anything is preposterous.

No, that's too strong.

He could address a seminar on the topic of Being Out Of Work For A Couple of Years, Then A*se Licking Your Way Into A Job With A Fruitcake's (Dis)Organisation.

Isn't it fortunate that the people who know and understand football completely ignore the idiotic opinions of the above posters (with the exception of two, that is). Well done Paul, keep it rolling. COYB

Have you actually seen our defence play recently? Taking the last season as a whole it was, with the exception of Cresswell and to a lesser extent an out of position Edwards, absolutely shocking.

If that qualifies Jewell to lecture others on the 'Roles and Responsibilities of a back four' there is something ridiculous about the whole situation!!

Idiotic. Perhaps PJ started the talk by telling delegates how important it is to address these key areas in pre-season; ensuring a permanent No. 1 keeper is signed along with decent CB's. Oh, hang on.

On THIRTEEN occasions last season we lost a game by conceeding AT LEAST THREE goals - a shocking record, which at one point was the worst defence in the entire league! It really is laughable that PJ was teaching others!!

PJ would be better advised to get back to ITFC and work out how he is to improve on a dismal season and a half in charge. Must be the luckiest manager in England to still have a job!

"worst defence" tag comes from never replacing Jason De Vos

Paul Jewell is a very talented man. Next week he's at the National Home Video conference giving a talk on home movies.
