Blues Amongst Clubs Linked With Church
Sunday, 12th Aug 2012 21:18

Town are reported to be amongst a number of Championship clubs interested in taking Reading striker Simon Church on loan. The Blues, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town are all said to have enquired about the 23-year-old Wales international’s availability on a season-long loan.

Church joined Reading’s youth set-up from hometown club Wycombe Wanderers when a schoolboy and has progressed through the ranks to the first team having been sent out for loan spells at Crewe, Yeovil, Wycombe and Leyton Orient.

Last season, the 5ft 11in tall frontman netted seven goals in 21 starts and 12 sub appearances but may find it harder to win a place in the side after the Royals’ return to the Premier League.

Town boss Paul Jewell has been looking to add a bigger striker to his squad since the end of last season but has been unable to do a deal with Derby for Steve Davies.

Meanwhile, Nathan Ellington could be the next player whose Town contract is settled, following Jimmy Bullard and Jaime Peters, whose Portman Road exits are expected to be confirmed this week.

Ellington’s chances of first team involvement with Town appear slim and the 31-year-old could move out on trial, with Forest, perhaps surprisingly, understood to be amongst several clubs willing to offer him the chance to impress.

Ha saw this on sky sport and was waiting forit to pop up on here(;
Would be a decent capture as it would provide cover for chopra, some where we struggled with last season during his 'off the field issues' period. Similar to baldock aswell.

sorry to dampen the mood, but we really do need a target man. he's not a bad player, don't get me wrong, but not a proven goalscorer, and we need a physical presence upfront.

Would be a fantastic coup to get Church in on a season long loan. I'm not a fan of flooding a side with loanees but when you're adding 2 or 3 with real quality they can be the difference.

Bullard, Ellington, Peters out with Adu, Church, Wickham in and we would be a top force this season.

I'd rather we use the summer transfer window to make permanent signings, but I wouldn't have any complaints against this. I think Church has been a little undervalued at Reading, could do a decent job.

Not seen him play much but worth a punt if he's going to help us for a promotion push. Although we'd have to change the 4231 formation, unless one comes on as a sub if the other forward isn't netting.

He's not great as he hardly started for Reading in the championship anyway, would much rather Davies join

Really rate the guy as he is a lively customer but not the tall powerful striker we need.
I'd take him but only with the addition of the tall target man as well.

He's a decent player with a good record against us might not be a bad signing. Anyone heard any more on Edu.

Average player but he's fairly athletic and hard working. He could do a Kuqi?

Would be a very good signing on loan. He's a nightmare for defenders and will work all game similar to Murphy and will score more goals than Murphy if he is a regular. He seems to have a good attitude as well which is important especially if he is second fiddle to Chops. I'm not too worried if we get Davies, If he was that good we would have paid money and he would be here by now plus Church would be on loan so would be less of a fee, and so what if he is on loan if he does well and helps us then wy wouldn't we want him. Church may even help us too promotion like Antonio did for Sheff wed, on loan from Reading last seaso., Hopefully Church is interested in joining.

Come on guys this would be an awesome signing, He was part of a championship winning side and we need players that are hungry for success. If this is true i can believe that we may have a chance this season. Especially with Edu too. PJ keep looking for hungry players and not those old relics.

be a nice back up for chops! because no one can go 46games +cup a year game in game out and think he would fill that gap! and keep chops on his toes! dont want him getting to comfy if he is having a bad month with goals!!

Ive seen him play many times as my missus' parents are reading season ticket holders so i normally manage to blag 3-4 games a season. No thanks! He's lazy, doesn't want to know unless the ball is played directly to feet and when he does feel like making a run has little or no pace at all. Also makes Jason Scotlands heading ability look like John Charles! If they want to send a striker out on loan, then i'd be more than happy to take Le Fondra off their hands..:)
