Jewell Hopeful He Could Add to Squad Before Blackburn Clash
Thursday, 16th Aug 2012 12:55

Blues boss Paul Jewell is hopeful that he could add to his squad before Saturday’s opening Championship game of the season at home to Blackburn. Town have lodged a bid for an unnamed player and are waiting for a response from his club.

Jewell said: “We’ve made a bid this morning for a player and we’re waiting for that bid to be accepted or not.

“It’s a player that we’d like to bring to the club. We want to bring players here if we can, in the main, for three or four years, for the future."

The Town manager, who played down the chances of former Blue Connor Wickham returning on loan, says the previous offer he made over the weekend has been turned down and this is a different player: “We got knocked back on that one, the one we made this morning we’re waiting on that one. It’s not the same player, that one looks like it’s dead in the water.

“We tried to resurrect it, but it hasn’t happened. I’m hopeful that this one, if it happens, could be before the weekend.”

I'm assuming that means he's under 30 so that sounds a good thing.

This bloke is useless. Take a leaf out of Paul Lambert's book and sort business out before the summer holiday and not wait for the January sales.
Please, please, please pack your bags and go..........

Will it be the big strong target man, the pacey winger or the right sided centre back I wonder??? I'm guessing it's a hybrid: a target man who can come in from the wing like Murphy.

I don't see how he can be that confident, if it's just a bid. FIrstly the bid needs to be accepted, then we need to know if the player wants to come here and then we need to be able to pay there wages. Only time will tell, but i hope Jewell and Clegg have other targets we are working on as well.

ha ha Town sign a player before sat ko ? Really? I love this to be true , but honestly cant see it happening, when these deals often appear to take weeks with ITFC.

So who do we think Defender , Striker or wide left MF ?

When people make comments about getting rid of the Manager now do they not think of the upheavel and disruption it would cause. We have signed some decent players all PJs choices and we have played well in the last 3 games so to suggest the Manager should go now is just ludicrous.

How do we get PJ to simply shut up about this, go about your business and get a player, don't start crying to the media like this, it just sounds pathetic and weak. Just get a player and when you get the player then talk.

Keep plugging away PJ, in todays climate it's more difficult because of high wage demands, inflated transfer fees, busy fixture schedule which means clubs want bigger squads and especially now we'er nearing games some teams feel bids are more unsettling. Our policy of limited transfer fees wont help either. We have a couple of weeks and if PJ keeps working at deals no matter how many get knocked back were bound to get a couple of lads in, I'm pleased with the shrewd buisness we've done and I'm glad PJ is active and is clearly trying to bring more players to the club and is up front with supporters about this.

Tiggs and Ipswich61 - you really need to find something better to do with your spare time during the school holidays

You stupid comments are just that - STUPID!!

Just cant please some people. Unlike the moaners i think given the situation, we stand a pretty good chance this year. I would rather have a top half finish than be where portsmouth are with a 10 point deduction and facing liquidation. If it takes longer to get the right players on the right wages so be it. ITFC till i die!!
