Jewell Says Goodbyes
Thursday, 25th Oct 2012 14:22

Departing Blues boss Paul Jewell said his goodbyes at Portman Road this morning, still frustrated that things didn’t work out for him at Town. The Liverpudlian’s time as manager of the Blues was ended by mutual consent on Wednesday.

Speaking in a lengthy interview with Ipswich Player, he said: “I’m gutted it hasn’t worked out and even now looking around the place, it’s so frustrating that it hasn’t worked out.

“I could not have given any more because I was desperate to see Portman Road packed and the club being successful and it’s the right decision for me to leave.”

He says he’s given Town a glowing reference to prospective successors: “I had a few managers on the phone to me yesterday and I told them don’t hesitate as the job is now available because it’s a great football club and I really hope the club goes on to great things because it deserves it.

“Ipswich is also in very good hands with the owner. Marcus doesn’t interfere in any decisions football-wise and is right up there with the best chairmen I have worked with — and I have worked with some really good ones.

“I know there might be some people out there knocking him but sometimes people need to be careful what they wish for. He’s 100 per cent committed to the club and wants success for Ipswich as much as anyone.”

Bluey123 is utterly clueless!! He likes to think he knows best, and you know what he may actually do, but the vast majority of posts on this thread are saying good luck to PJ, shame it didn't work out but all the best, proper fans showing their class to a manager who tried but failed. Bluey123 lacks that class of respect and will of course always know best!

I have to say it takes a lot to admit that it was the right thing for him to leave, I fully admit I was amongst many who wanted him out, but I do wish him well in the future, in whatever direction that may take him..

You signed a gazillion players in your 21 month spell and you still did not have a decent right back? Carlos Edwards would be magnificent in the midfield! plus the majority of your games in charge you played strikers wide in midfield! no wonder we are bottom!!!!!!!!!!! good riddance!!!!!!

Nice to see positive feedback on PJ. Although he failed to get the team to produce the goods for him he clearly is gutted that he couldn't get it to work. No hint of bitterness, unlike one or two on here. Bluey123 is clearly the worst supporter in our history. In fact I wonder if he is a supporter at all!!!

PJ shows that he really did care. I for one wanted him to suceed although it was right to go and its a reall shame it didn't work out. Refreshing for a man that has just gone through the ringer to come out and say such positive things about his previous employer. He knows what a terrific club we are and he's hurting as much as we are.

Best wishes Paul and thanks for your undoubted comittment during your time here

It is good of Jewell to do an interview and to say kind things about the club, and says a lot about him as a person. I thank him for his time and effort here.

The disconnect between the club and the fans was spoken about yesterday and the fact that we have to pay money to watch this Paul Jewell interview is another example. Our manager is saying goodbye, can they not just post the video on the club website for free or on YouTube?
