Barnett Returns to Peterborough Due to Knee Injury
Thursday, 13th Dec 2012 09:49

On-loan striker Tyrone Barnett has returned to Peterborough United having suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury in a behind-closed-doors game on Monday. The 27-year-old faces around three months on the sidelines.

McCarthy said: “The big news is Tyrone Barnett and he’ll be going back to Peterborough, he’s damaged his posterior cruciate ligament. He did it in the game on Monday and he’ll be out for a while.”

Barnett’s three-month spell at Town is up on January 19th but he will return to London Road during that period.

Better news for the Blues boss is that Nigel Reo-Coker is available again after his hamstring problem, although Luke Hyam is unlikely to be involved at Leeds on Saturday: “Nigel is fit, he’s trained all week. He was fine.

“Luke was expected to be fit today and probably is, but he’s poorly, he’s got a virus so he went home yesterday.

“He’ll be injury free for the Christmas period. But he’s doubtful for Saturday and he would have been anyway because he’s been out for a couple of weeks.”

Bradley Orr was suffering with a stiff neck last week but is not considered a doubt, while a couple of other players should be fine despite minor tweaks: “Bradley should be fine, I’ve not heard anything to the contrary. Elliott Hewitt, had a tight hamstring, I think he’ll be OK. DJ had a bit of a tight hamstring but will be OK to train.”

Barnett’s unavailability means Bile Mohsni will come back into the travelling party, having missed out recently as the unlucky sixth domestic loanee.

Bad news about Barnett, think he gave us a different option but i'm sure he'll be easily replaced. More gutted to see that Nigel Reo-Coker is 'fit' (would be the first time this year)

Wow, that's a shock! Is a shame cos I don't think he done much wrong when he was on the pitch! Maybe something can be done when he's fit cos Boro certainly don't want him! Ahh well, Murphy has done really well in the past few games and him and DJ are starting a very nice partnership! Hopefully, Scotland can be nearer the squad as I think he still has something to offer. Plus, with Barnett being gone, this means Mohsni can be in and around the match day squad! Yippee!

I love the loan system, you borrow a player, knacker him up and send him back broken. It's a bit like saying my mate has a couple of cars, I'll ask to borrow one for a couple of months until I can get a new one sorted and then having a prang and saying there you go mate, have it back it's no use to me anymore.

What a nightmare for Peterborough and Barnett...................club desperate to get rid, said he'll never play for them again, Barnett publicly slates them and says he never wants to play for them again anyway.................move on a couple of weeks and he's back at the club injured! Crikey, I bet you could cut the atmosphere with a knife, when he goes in for his daily physio.

That's a shame, he was a good option on the bench. At least Murphy and Campbell have been playing well together, lets just hope it continues. Might also give Chopra a bit more opportunity, though we seem to have been subbing both strikers in recent games.

Didn't realise your cruciate ligament reached up as far as your posterior. I knew I should have paid more attention in Biology lessons!

Shame... Bet he is gutted to be returning considering the circumstances in which he left. Maybe we will see him in a blue shirt again who knows

Bad news about BArnet, thought he looked handy. However id have been more gutted had Murph not found his place in the team up top with DJ. As long as Murph is getting the goals i dont think we will miss Barnet that much. Wish him well on his recovery though, never nice for anyone nto pick up a long term injury.

What is it with these Peterborough rejects? First Taylor and now Barnett! Serioulsy though, I hope he makes a full recovery and that sometime in the not too distant future Town revisit this player loan scenario.

Perhaps this will give Moshni an opportunity to show what he can do in the first team,as he is the only loanee that hasnt been given a chance;but must leave this to Mick as quite rightly he doesnt like being told who to put in the first team,as he made clear at the recent shareholders AGM

Hope he sticks with Drury on Saturday and only uses N RC as sub. Shame about Barnett as he did well when he played - mind you most people do now for MM

Not overly fussed about losing him early TBH. Could fill a gap in the short term but I would have questions if MM was looking to sign him permanently with the way he has slated his current club. We've had to deal with these types of players before and it has never really worked out and ends up costing the club more money to get rid

gives bil a chance to win mick over. wouldnt mind mohsni and barnett to sign up in jan, for big guys they have plenty of graft about them.

Once Murphy and Campbell keep scoring the way they are it wont really matter

Not overly fussed to be honest. He was a good (very good) option in the air but I couldn't imagine him being too much more than that.

Happy to give Mohsni the chance instead.

..... shame that - he looked more than useful, and could have been a sensible permanent signing.
From what I saw of him, could have been a bit more mobile, but may just have been carrying a tweek at the time !!

h32 - agree with you, looked decent enough in his brief appearances, particularly his debut. Seemed to have something about him, but always dangerous basing that on such a brief 'showing'. Maybe its a coincidence but Murphy has been playing a lot better since Barnett arrived, so at least we have cover for the 'bigger' striker

Really unlucky for him and us, thought he looked really good foil for DJ very good in the air and a turn of pace will be missed.

Shame as he was keeping Murphy on his toes. Maybe JET can do the same now he's been training as a striker.
