McCarthy Delighted to Sign Kisnorbo
Thursday, 3rd Jan 2013 14:34

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s delighted to have added Leeds centre-half Patrick Kisnorbo to his squad ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Aston Villa. The Blues manager has also revealed that short-term signing Kelly Youga will not be retained when his contract is up in the middle of this month.

Kisnorbo has joined the Blues until January 29th with McCarthy keen to add to his central defensive options with Danny Higginbotham having moved on: “The first thing I liked about him was that he was available and eligible for the weekend.

“I know him and I’ve seen him play at Leicester and I know he’s a good competitor. He’s a good defender, a good character around the place, everyone speaks highly of him.

“He has been injured, a while back, but he’s got himself fit, he’s played in U21 games and trained every day, we’ve checked that with Leeds and the fitness coaches. But he’s another one who has not been playing.

“He’s come in and I’m delighted that we’ve got him available because before that I had only Chambo and Tommy Smith as centre-backs.”

McCarthy says no other deals are imminent with the transfer window having opened on Tuesday: “I’ve made loads of calls but there's nothing moving, nothing concrete. We’ve got nobody coming in but thankfully we’ve got a week before our next league game.”

Former Charlton left-back Kelly Youga joined Town on a two-month contract that was in effect an extended trial in November, having spent much of the previous three years out due to knee problems.

However, McCarthy says the 27-year-old won’t be offered new terms: “He’s done all right, but I’m not keeping Kelly.”

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Bilel Mohsni has failed to show for training at Southend since leaving Portman Road.

Wonder why we signed youga if only for a trial

Seems like Youga was cover for LB but with Mings in the team, now surplus to requirements. All the best to the lad.

Hope that Kisnorbo isn't here just to get fit. Smith/Chambers seem to be doing a decent job based on reports so is MM just wanting a back-up CB with some experience?

Wellens is an interesting shout as he looked pretty solid and not sure he is in the frame at Leicester

I'm quite positive about Kisnorbo as he seems just what we need; a good experienced centre-back who can cover for Chambers/Smith and add a bit of competition for places. The only issue with him is that he seems rather injury prone, but if he's only here for a month I suppose that won't matter.

Just spoken to my 2 leeds season ticket holder contact who both say that if he hadn't been injured then he would be in their starting line up.
Said he was big hard defender good header with the occasional heavy tackle (no puns pleeeaaaase)
Looks solid cover for the next month - if he gets the chance to prove himself maybe he will be asked to stay on

There's talk of links with Watford Midfielder Jonathan Hogg and Man Utd striker Nick Powell, although the latter is also heavily linked with Peterborough

find it hilarious to be honest, if Paul Jewell had signed Kisnorbo on a months loan you lot would of had his pants down, actually cringing at how you all of a sudden think a loan is brilliant, when poor old Jewell had exactly the same to work with so got loans in aswell, but he got berated for it? hahaha, your a funny lot.

Oh Gibbs how wrong you are! Mick is bringing in a CB and not letting a CB go like Jewell did in the summer! In case you hadn't noticed we only have 2 CB's on our books so this loan makes perfect sense as cover and it could lead to a permanent signing.

He has bags of experience in this league and as Leeds are allowing us to play him against Villa could mean that there is more to it than just a Loan deal. Solid, no nonsense CB potentially playing alongside Smithy meaning that Mr Chambers can go to Right Back where he was playing when he was at Forest. I can't see how anyone would be disappointed at this....

Hogg was one of Watford's only players to survive the Zola revolution apparently

The difference between the loan signings Jewell made and the loan signings Mick has made is that Mick is getting in players that he feels are needed, he has looked at things and thought "right this is roughly what the team should be, now what do we need, where are we short, what are we lacking". On the other hand Jewell was more, "well things aren't going my way lets bring in 7 or 8 players and stick them in the team and get some results". There wasn't massive logic to some of who he recruited, some of the lads we needed were already at the club, i.e Smith, N'Daw, Murphy, they have just been used more properly by Mick, and I don't mean that as a dig at Jewell who did sign Campbell and did his best for the club.

stop gap to permanent signing , we do need players and we need a permanent striker and a good defender most of all , i find myself wondering how much ambition is going to be shown in the transfer market - yet again!

Dissboyitfc - agreed - versatile player, who really wanted to be here - cannot understand why he wasn't kept on until the end of the season anyway.
