Fahey Amongst Midfielders Linked With Blues
Thursday, 3rd Jan 2013 17:09

Town, Nottingham Forest and Norwich City are chasing Birmingham City midfielder Keith Fahey, according to reports in Ireland. Elsewhere, the Blues are also linked with Watford's Jonathan Hogg and Manchester United’s Nick Powell.

Irish international Fahey, 29, was with Arsenal’s academy and moved on to Aston Villa while still a youth player, but failed to make a first team appearance and returned to Ireland.

The Dubliner, who has been capped 16 times by his country, scoring three goals, played for Bluebell United, St Patrick’s Athletic and Drogheda before joining Birmingham in January 2009.

Since then he has made 107 starts and 35 sub appearances for the Midlanders, scoring nine times.

Fahey, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been back in Ireland on compassionate leave for the last seven weeks.

Forest are now managed by Alex McLeish and Norwich by Chris Hughton, both of whom were previously in charge at Birmingham.

Meanwhile, the Blues are being linked with a permanent move for 24-year-old Watford defensive midfielder Jonathan Hogg.

The £1 million-rated Teessider also learnt his trade at Aston Villa, spending time on loan at Darlington and Portsmouth while at Villa Park.

Having made seven appearances for the Premier League club Hogg moved on to Watford in the summer of 2011 for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year contract.

Hogg has been a regular in the increasingly impressive Watford side this season but reportedly could become a victim of Gianfranco Zola's revolution at Vicarage Road,

Elsewhere, Town, Leicester and Peterborough are all claimed to be interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell on loan for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old was previously a Blues target during his time with Crewe Alexandra.

Spoke to a few Watford mates - Hogg 'works hard , but cant hit a Barn Door ' - Suppose that is one step ahead of NRC then - who looks like a barn door would like a Creative Midfielder - who can chip in 10 a season !!! Dont ask for much - Mick will find him I am sure of that !! Another M Jarvis be nice ....

Ahhh I remember the days of being linked with players we could only dream of landing. Why would he come to you lot if he's made 20+ appearances for a playoff contender?? Besides, Zola seems to like him.
How's Scott Loach getting along??

Alternatively we could forget about all of them and give Hyam a run in the team instead.

Fahey - Could be worth bringing in if he is over the personal issues that meant he needed the compassionate leave and ready to return to England. A central midfielder I see.

Hogg - I don't know anything about him, but isn't N'Daw a decent defensive midfielder for us?

Powell - I thought he was a striker, but see he is more a midfielder of late. An 18-year-old may not be ideal for a relegation battle, but I expect he is very good and worth bringing in if we can. Let's face it, he must be 10 times better than Reo-Coker!

DozzBob - and why is our old mate Loachy between the sticks at Villa Park? That's right my man - because his replacement/upgrade is unavailable.
Yes, it was a fine victory over Charlton. Congrats. Did you catch our game at Brighton? It was on the telly so you may have stumbled over it. We played rather well. Have you played them recently?

Hogwash why would he want to join us and leave Watford?lets face it who wouldn't?long term we can offer him everything you can't.As for Loach once we have built his confidence back up after some shocking treatment by so called Watford fans he will be fine.

I like Fahey, much better than Reo-coker. Creative in his passing which is what we need when going forward. As for Hogg, I don't know a lot about him but have heard of him to be okay. For Powell though, this is the one I want most! Still very young and hungry. I'm just afraid that there will be more than us interested which there will be, no doubt.
