Carson Joins York
Thursday, 14th Mar 2013 09:36

Midfielder Josh Carson has joined League Two York City on a month's loan. The 19-year-old hasn't featured for the Town first team since Mick McCarthy took over as boss.

The Minstermen are now managed by former Norwich boss Nigel Worthington, who handed Carson his full international debut during his time as Northern Ireland boss.

Carson, who is contracted until the summer of 2014 with an option for a further year, has made 18 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals.

McCarthy has been keen to send Carson out on loan for a while and the academy graduate spent time on trial at Northampton earlier in the year.

Speaking in January, the Blues boss said: “I think he needs to go and play some football. He’s just a young lad learning his trade and travelling with us and training with us is not good enough for him, he needs to play.”

5 goals in 18 starts isn't bad though is it?
Hopefully he gets stuck in at York and comes back better for it!

I doubt we'll see him in a Town shirt again.

He's always done ok for us. He's still a young lad and a month at York will do him good.

He does have an eye for goal to be fair to him. His game as a winger though just isn't up to it yet I'm afraid.

We should chance him up front in the reserves, seems like a natural finisher.

Poor decision, championship player.

I think he has potential.

But at the moment he isn't going to help us get to where we want in the Championship. Hopefully this month does him good.

He came onto the scene a couple of years ago and looked a real prospect. For some reason he hasn't stepped up to the next level? Could it be attitude thinking he has already made it? or maybe he peaked early? Good luck to him at York, lets hope it aids his development and he can come back and make a real challenge to carve out a career here!

Did brilliant on his first few games under PJ but done nothing much ever since really. Hopefully this move will motivate him to come back and work harder. If not i can see him having a lower level career.

A real talent that needs to get his career on track before it disappears a la Bowditch. If he find sthe form he had when he burst on the scene 2 years ago then he will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Go away and work hard, Josh. Come back and have a great career for ITFC.

Look to Tommy Smith for inspiration. Sent away on loan, we thought we would never see him again and now look!
Worthington knows Carsons game very well and will hopefully give him games and confidence. I agree that he does have an eye for goal, he also has quick feet and good technique. All the lad needs is experience of competitive football to bring on his development.
Best of luck at York, we will be keeping an eye on their results!

Good lad, get out, get some games under your belt and come back ready to fight for the first team next season. Looked good when he broke into the team but stalled a little under PJ

THis is a brilliant bit of news, going to a manager who clearly rates him, get him some good tough games under his belt, and come back for next season ready to go. Was saying weeks ago this was just what he needed, shame it didn't happen a little sooner but better late than never!

if he reminds us of Dean Bowditch, he must depart ASAP...

Probably still too high a level for the little fat boy with MUCH less talent than he thinks he has. He needs to start to learn a trade, because he won't make a living playing football for much longer.

Good luck Josh on your post to York, prove the critics wrong and show what a talented player you are. IMO Josh Carson did not get a chance under Jewell as club struggled and Jewell played 'experienced' players???????????? Young talent needs nurtured and not left sitting in the stand, something Jewell did not attend to.

I agree with Garv on this one. Sadly, Carson just isn't up to it ... yet. Let's hope this loan spell helps him to progress.

@Daleyitfc: If I thought you were an ITFC fan you would be labelled as an absolute T*t, but I suspect you are a secret Norwich Internet Troll trying to stir up negativity.. which in that case still makes you an absolute T*t.

Phil, can you suspend his account? We don't need his type of comments on here.

I think he will struggle, there is obviously an issue with him, I know most will blame managers past but I feel the problem lay with the motivation and attitude of the player, he is nowhere near 1st team level at present, if he wasnt an academy product he would be getting the same level of stick as Lee Martin etc, the fact Northampton sent him packing back to us after a few days 'trial' speaks volumes in my opinion.
