Hyam Set for New Deal
Friday, 31st May 2013 21:30

TWTD understands that midfielder Luke Hyam is set to follow Tommy Smith in being offered a contract extension by the Blues.

Hyam re-established himself as a first-team regular in the second half of the season under Mick McCarthy having been less in favour during previous boss Paul Jewell’s time in charge.

Shortly before Jewell’s exit in October last year, Hyam signed a contract until the summer of 2014 with an option for a further season.

Earlier this month Smith signed a new deal until the summer of 2016 and it’s likely that former Northgate High School pupil Hyam will be offered terms along similar lines.

The 21-year-old broke into the Town first team in the 2010/11 season during Roy Keane’s time in charge and has now made 48 starts and seven sub appearances, scoring once.

If/when this happens it will be fantastic news. He was brilliant for us when he played in a run of games, and if he carrys on improving like Tommy, then he will be a great long term player for Town!

Fantastic news and well deserved. Took his time to break through but one of our best players now. Really nice to see Mick's trying to hold down our youngsters long term!

Great news! Good to see the former academy players sustaining places in the first team now, Smith and Hyam should be the spine of the team for years to come.

This makes a nice change from the past couple of years where there only news was about who we were going to sign on loan (Bowyer=low point).

Keep this good news related to academy-raised players coming!!

Well deserved, he has been a main player along with Tommy Smith and Luke Chambers. Get a creative midfielder, although by the look Luke's latter performances, he could be the new Matt Holland. Perhaps a new holding midfielder is the order of the day?

Really liked seeing him playing more advanced towards the end of the season, getting forward he looked good! Hopefully with less pressure now (due to the possibility of relegation last/this season) we see more of this next season, more to come from hyam, excellent news

Good news. This is the modern way of doing things. Offer any player you want to keep new terms when they have 2 years remaining on their contract and sell them if they won't sign. From memory Creswell also has 2 years left so I'd expect developments there also (unless I'm mistaken and he has longer left).

Good new, and hopefully a further sign that we are ending the practice is allowing players to see out the final years of their contracts. McCarthy has spoken about the importance of Hyam so it is absolutely sensible to get him signed up.

Hyam has been excellent. MM stuck with him, after some poor treatment from the previous manager.
