McCarthy Cash Clash Claim
Sunday, 2nd Jun 2013 11:30

Blues manager Mick McCarthy is on “a collision course” with those in control of the purse strings at Portman Road, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.

The People reports that rumours are circulating boardrooms elsewhere that McCarthy is unhappy with his summer transfer war chest and could move on if “the managerial merry-go-round stops at his door”.

It’s not the first time that there have been suggestions that McCarthy is dissatisfied with the budget he discussed with owner Marcus Evans last month.

Former Blues striker Alan Brazil has said that he has heard similar rumours on his Talksport show several times in recent weeks: "I heard a little whisper that perhaps the salaries are going to be cut, not just a little, but massively."

Asked whether he felt McCarthy might move on, he added: "I'm not saying he's going to go, I don't want to start scaremongering but... you're looking to kick on."

Town have already lost out to Blackburn for the signature of former Notts County winger Alan Judge, while ex-Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt has also been offered significantly better terms by other Championship clubs.

However, speaking towards the end of the season, McCarthy seemed relaxed about competing on an uneven playing field in the transfer market when discussing the limitations that the Financial Fair Play rules would place upon Town: “It’s not fair, but I kind of like kicking against fair. I like all that, a bit of a scrap between the haves and have-nots.”

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace have been linked with a £2 million move for Blues left-back Aaron Cresswell.

The 23-year-old has also recently been mentioned in connection with Aston Villa, who made an enquiry regarding the Liverpudlian last summer.

If there is serious interest from either party, the Blues are likely to want rather more than £2 million for Cresswell with his former club Tranmere due 20% of any profit Town make on the £420,000 they have paid for the full-back since he moved to Portman Road in July 2011. A fee of around £3 million would appear a more realistic price.

Released Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon is again linked with the Blues, with the 29-year-old widely reported to have held talks with Town earlier in the week.

Town, newly-promoted Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough, Leeds and Reading are all targeting released Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, according to one of Sunday’s papers.

Blues boss McCarthy was the man who took the 27-year-old to Molineux but a reunion at Town seems unlikely with Ebanks-Blake set to miss the start of the season having suffered a broken leg and undergone ankle surgery towards the end of the last campaign.

The team that finished last season plus two wingers and we'll be sorted.... hopefully Big Mick will stick around to finish the job :)

If Mick (and Terry) leave, then for me my hopes and expectations for the coming season will go too.

Absolute nonsense.

Mick knew what he was getting in to with FFP and has always been very loyal at the clubs he's been at.

He's started to build a side that is very capable and only needs a bit of strengthening to really push on.

Plus with big earners like Chopra and JET likely to move on there would be a reasonable budget I am sure.

This is just a load of nonsense spouted by the likes of Brazil that's made it in to the media by lazy journalists who consider rubbish from ex-players as a 'source'.

Complete rubbish, he'll be here next season.

Brazil is barely sober most mornings, so what he says isn't worth listening to.

Not surprised about this.

The interview with the MDs a week ago was all abut reducing cash and I know that Marcus Evans will bail out if we don't make the playoffs this season.

Information is reliable as its source. Source: The People + Alan Brazil. I'll wait a bit before I'm concerned.

Absolute nonsense, mick has got to stay. All we need now is;
A creative midfielder
Two young wingers
And a 20 goal a season striker. Maybe someone like Leigh griffiths

I wouldn't be surprised if Mick leaves. It's one thing having a budget and ensuring FFP guidelines are met, but it is quite another being significantly out fought by other championship clubs similar to us. If wages are being slashed and we continue to lose out, mick will go where an owner backs him. Time for Evans to step up. For too long we have relied on loan deals, that won't be good enough to keep Mick.

Can only hope he stays. However, another creative mud would be nice...but haven't we hot wordsworth for that? Guy from Cheltenham would be nice though...as would forrester..maybe byron lawrance can kick on this season too?

Norwich run EDAT has been spouting this rubbish for weeks, as normal trying to unsettle club and fans.

So, forgive me for being a bit thick, but the sub-text of the story is what? That ME will deliberately under-invest in the club in order to ensure bottom-half of the table mediocrity for ever, whilst also losing the best management team we have had in a generation and the chance of a £120 million pay-day in May 2014?
Yep, that sounds like a solid return on his investment. No wonder he's so successful. Why would anyone believe this?

Methinks this is a rather easy story for The People to come up with. A couple of reported - note, REPORTED, NOT confirmed - Ipswich targets join other clubs on what one can speculate are better terms than we'd be prepared to offer. Conclusion? Mick McCarthy is "being frustrated in his attempts" / "at loggerheads with the board" / "insert melodramatic bull here".

I'm not saying it's impossible - we did after all hear these kinds of grumblings from the last couple of managers - but until Mick says something himself or actually puts his position in doubt, I won't put much stock in this.

Its about time a team got promoted without a rich asian owner! Lets do this for the debt-filled poor clubs like Pompey and Coventry. We don't need money just a team willing to give it their all.

You can't put the cart before the horse!
Given that the fans here have been starved of decent football for years it's no surprise the gates have dropped, which puts us at a disadvantage under the FFP Rules.
I think Mick is realistic & forward thinking enough to know that should he build a decent team & get the fans back we will be more than capable of holding our own against all but the biggest teams within the FFP rules.
The population of our catchment area has grown immensely since we used to get gates of 30,000,
With a competitive free goal scoring team the fans will come back..........sleeping giant!

Look at all the signs, they all point to this being a load of litter!

1 - MM met with board pre the end of last season so he knew well in advance what the score was and, as this article states, he was fine with it.

2 - MM has made a bit more room in the wage kitty with 5 or 6 players moving on including high earner Martin.

3 - He's placed 2 high earners on the transfer list to free up more cash up for wages. We both know these players are very subjective so it appears unlikely his hand was forced. Plus, why would ME force MMs hand? He's just kept him in the league saving him lots of cash.

4 - At no point has MM given any hint that things are amiss with Evans always stating 'they have a good relationship'.

5 - We've already realised a handful of targets - Murphy, Tabb, McGoldrick and Skuse.

The amount of transfer budget is the only sticking point but MM and TC are no slouches when it comes to deals and looking for bargains and given MM has built a great base with what he had at his disposal it seems unlikely he'll throw the towel in knowing we only need a handful of players to make a decent fist of it next year.

Journalists should be accountable for what they write. They should put their names to each article they have published!

Hope this is just rubbish but i think we need to back him more than just free signings. Yes the fair play rule is a pain but if we have any hope of promotion next year then get the players Mick wants!

mannos6 added 13:43 - Jun 2
So he may leave because reports say he wanted hunt! When we hear solid news about players being here and saying no to join another club then that's fine il worry.
Hunt was a former player he had fits the bill of left midfield player and free transfer funny how these rumours started after we missed out on judge.. Papers need news and hunt being linked with us was a no brainier for gossip.
Maybe we couldn't match Blackburn with judges wages is because of this ridiculous reward to award clubs who get relegated with wealthy payments over 3 seasons. Clubs are not using parachute payments to balance their books but take advantage and spend big on players and wages. Blackburn spent nearly 10 million on a strike force

Alan Brazil needs to keep his bloody big gob SHUT! He "knows" NOTHING !

Now his stupid speculation has filtered through into the national media, probably upsetting the Clubs chances of getting players. Why doesnt he just sod off to the pub, his "home" since he gave up playing for this Club.

I have already hinted as such, not saying it will happen and i hope it doesn't but wouldn't be overly surprised. i think this transfer window will show Marcus Evans' true ambition, we finally have the right manager we have already missed out on Judge for a paltry difference in offers so please back Mick now.

I think mick will stay! Although I hope ME understands Mick will spend the money wisely and therefore gives him a little more! We need some players, a bigger squad! Would like to keep cressy would like more than 3 million but mings seems a suitable replacement

Sugito added 15:46 - Jun 2
First Alan Brazil said it, because he didn't have anything else to say, than EADT printed it, because they didn't have anything else to write about and now The People is passing it on as thirdhand information. Unfortunately it has been quite a quiet week transfer-wise in Ipswich, so rumors are flying about...

More importantly, we've all missed the £2m for Cressie, what part of F**K OFF doe Palace not understand? £2m my ar*e, £5-£8m then perhaps we'll talk!
Don't think MM would have come here without some sort of gentleman's agreement re-cash....do you? Nah!!!!
Roll on next season chaps!!!!!!!
