Chopra Linked With Blackpool Move
Wednesday, 24th Jul 2013 10:20

Town striker Michael Chopra is reportedly set to sign for Blackpool. The 29-year-old, previously mentioned in connection with Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday, was missing from last night’s squad for the friendly at Colchester with manager Mick McCarthy confirming that he was in talks with a club.

The Blues boss, who made the former Cardiff man available for transfer at the end of the season, said: “He’s talking to clubs. Talking to a club."

McCarthy wouldn’t confirm who the club involved were: “I wouldn’t disclose what he’s doing, he’s talking to a club.”

The ex-Newcastle and Sunderland striker is understood to be on £18,000 a week at Town, a wage he is unlikely to be offered anywhere else and the Blues will almost certainly have to negotiate a settlement of the remaining year of his contract.

I may be wrong, and if so all you smart people will no doubt correct me, but I think Chopra has only actually scored 20 in a season once in his entire career. This being at Cardiff in 2006-7 season. So he is really just a POTENTIAL 20 a season striker...big difference. And by Christ has he failed to realise that potential! And as we all agree on, his attitude, greediness and apparent contempt for us loyal fans is what has turned us against him rather than the lack of goals. Maybe he will score a few elsewhere but he will still be the type of personality we sure as hell don't need at Ipswich.

We all believed in him when he first signed. Shame he didnt live up to expectation. Lets hope he sorts himself out up on the NW coast.
Can we have our ticket sellers back now please Mr Evans?

Adrian paz. hes already paid back the money that was lent to him so no we wont be writing it off. while ive said before hes been stupid to keep opening his mouth making daft statements but hes only human and most people if goaded enough will retaliate. and I wouldn't be surprised if its those on here who are slagging him off now who were the ones goading him on twitter. i cant say im that disappointed to see him go but it has to be said that if played in correct position(i.e. in the box) he would score goals. maybe not 20 but certainly 10-15, for those saying we need a 20 goal a season man. while that would be nice not one of the strikers at hull and Cardiff last season got into double figures, so as I say, would be nice, but not essential

I don't understand why we have to settle anything? Can someone please explain.

A player is up for sael with a year left on his contract, a club want the player so why can't we sell or let the player go on a free? Why settle.

I just don't get it.

Chopr very disapointed with you, what held so much hope proved to be an utter disaster.

Brockley - We have to settle the contract because he is on 18k per week here, and he has already stated he is not taking a pay cut. Therefore to ensure he moves, we have to give him the difference that he will lose in wages.

Just remember the money we lent him and get that back when he wants to negotiate the cancelation of his contract.

Blackpool eh ?! ...OMG all those fruit machines to gamble his life away on.

Seems a perfect match to me .

I've actually tipped Blackpool to go down this season!
Depleted squad. Poor manager. Poor pre-season pre by his own admission! Possible 50:50 gamble signings like Chopra!? Oh dear...

I have no sympathy or empathy for Chopra. Good player? Absolutely. Abysmal professional? Completely.

Hopefully he goes to Blackpool. Chopra needs to move on to salvage his career, he clearly has problems but there is no need for so much abuse. Hopefully Mick can sign one more striker who can add more goals to the team.

I don't know why we got hi in the first place if we were looking for a 20 goal a season player because Chops has never achieved that. Throughout his career, as far as I can recall, he has averaged one goal in every three games and I don't think anything will fundamentally change. I agree with many post however, in that we still need a 20 goal a season striker - even if it is from the lower leagues.

Chumley54 - here's an appendix for you ;-)
Season - Games - Goals (all competitions)
12/13 - 36 - 5
11/12 - 46 - 14
10/11 - 37 - 11
09/10 - 51 - 21
08/09 - 35 - 11
07/08 - 34 - 6
06/07 - 44 - 22
05/06 - 13 - 1
04/05 - 40 - 17

Truth be spoken, we were all excited when he got here, but now, after all his erring - it's best we part ways.

So much hope placed in Chops not only when he came here, but the year before when we didnt sign him. Unfortunately, he has become the personification of the whole Keane/Jewell era and the futility found there.

Time to move on, too much water under the bridge with him to have him be a solid player here at this point.

I assume the club will deduct the money they paid to bail him out from any wages due? If not, they're more stupid than even I think.

Maybe 2p slots on the pleasure beach is all he can afford now so a move to Blackpool would be ideal

Good riddance I say. Bad influence on the other players and a bad name for the club

Is there still an enormous Michael Chopra looming over the ticket office at Ipswich Railway Station like a malevolent Messiah? If so can someone scrape him off before the season starts? Thank you.

...... it'll take a brave / foolish Chairman / Manager to take yet another gamble on him - if ever there was a case of 'smelling the coffee' too late - this must be it.

He had a fantastic opportunity to get his career back on track at this Club - but blew it TOTALLY - so why the sympathy votes ??

h32 added 17:32 - Jul 24
sucrePB1 - .... absolutely agree with you - but then again we are talking about an element of ITFC Fans here - as I've said before 'probably an instumental reason' why we have been where we STILL are after 12 YEARS.

Watch the minus count - 'truth hurts sometimes'.

The Chopra debate has been done on here many times - so real no point going over it again. Best for all parties to draw a line and move on. I wish him well, particularly in respect of his well documented personal problems.
