Town Confirm Chopra Exit Thursday, 25th Jul 2013 10:34 Town have confirmed that striker Michael Chopra has joined Blackpool on a one-year deal with an option for a further season. The 29-year-old was at Playford Road this morning to say his goodbyes.
Last night, Chopra, who cost Town £1 million when he signed from Cardiff in June 2011, revealed that he had undergone a medical having spent this week talking to other clubs.
The former Newcastle and Sunderland man made 56 starts and 26 sub appearances, scoring 19 times in a spell overshadowed by off-field issues.
Despite having had a fractious relationship with fans, particularly on social media, Chopra tweeted his thanks to all at Portman Road: "Would like to thank Ipswich Town Football Club and their fans for the support they have given me in the last two years."
He added: "New challenge and a fresh start for me. Can't wait to pull on the Blackpool FC shirt and play in front of their great supporters ."
Meanwhile, new left winger Jack Doherty has been handed the number 21 shirt.

He could have been a very good striker here, shame it didn't work out for him, glad he's now gone. Good luck to him at Blackpool.

Whenever past players have left the club I have found it easy to wish them a fond farewell and good wishes for their future careers. I find that hard to do with Chopra.

Fairly happy about this... Can anyone tell me why Sky are not showing any ITFC live games this year ?? Pretty much all the other Championship clubs are being shown - some a number of times - and we are completely left out. Frustrating for those of us who live a long way from PR.

Yessss! Hopefully this will be the last time we ever see any Chopra related story on here ever again. Think once Mick gets his final player in that he wants we'll have the full jigsaw puzzle completed. Bring on Reading!!

Coventry away was great. Watford away was great. Bolton away was great. He did earn us a few points with last-minute winners and gave us some moments to remember. But for someone of his calibre and with his prior goalscoring record, ultimately those few great moments were not anywhere near enough, and they fell far short of making up for the troubles he had off the pitch. A departure that saddens me, but only because it should have been a much sadder day than it is.

Normally wish players the best of luck when they leave the club and I hate to say it, but that doesn't apply this time. Chopra took advantage of the club's kindness to him when other clubs wouldn't go near him. He couldn't understand the fans frustration with him and was a prime example of footballers that take what they have for granted.

Time will tell as to whether this is a huge mistake that backfired or not. I personally think it is and now think a new striker is needed

Had such high hopes that we had signed a top goalscorer , but he didn't repay the club's support in him ..............so we move on . MM is building a good young squad for the future on a shoestring , maybe sorting out the Chopra situation will enable MM to get the last bit of the jigsaw in. This squad has a good feel about it , the overpaid , under achievers have gone and in MM & TC we have a team that knows what they are doing .

HOOOOOOORAHHHHHHHHHHHH Chopra was a decent player 4-5 years ago, he has too many underlying issues to get back to where he was. No one needs a player in the dressing room like Chopra, too disruptive to our young fresh looking team. MM has got rid of all the dead wood now!

Unfortunately, by the time we bought him he had lost a lot of his previous ability due to his mind being on other issues. I'm disappointed that it didn't work out for him here but it is the right decision to offload him (especially from a wage point of view).

Was one of the no doubt large amount of us who was chuffed when he signed and it is a real shame that it didnt work out in the end! 19 goals really isnt a good return on what we paid for him but we move on. I wish him good luck and i do hope he sorts his demons out. When i say good luck i obviously mean in the 44 games that wont be against us this year! COYB's

@NoCanariesAllowed - Well put. Chopra's overall scoring record was just not good enough and he will unfortunately be remembered more for his off field shenanigans rather that whatever he did in a Town shirt. I hope Blackpool fans enjoy more and endure less (as long as he doesn't score against us, of course).

Marcus Evans doesn't see any reason why you should see any of our games for free when you can spend all your money to travel to PR & purchase one of the best value tickets in the championship!............But don't forget to book online before you leave.

Blueberry 27. Re Sky, it runs to the fact that a certain person who runs their Saturday football programme has a distinct dislike of Town. Unfortunately this has spread to the whole of Sky Sports. On their Goals programme on Saturday evenings last season they showed Town as the very last team for four consecutive weeks, even after the Scottish Third Division and with very little coverage and no mention of goaks scored during the matches! I wrote to them and complained, they said they would look into it - end of! The only way to correct Sky's attitude is for all supporters and the club to write to them, complain, then threaten to withdraw our subscriptions. Back on subject. I wish Mr Chopra well in his future career and feel that he needs constant help rather than abuse.

Great That he's gone... Shame that it appears we had to pay him to go.... He's really taken us all for a ride in his time at town, with his selfish, immature attitude. Now we can move on and hopefully have a good push for the play-offs this season
