McCarthy: Cressy's Going Nowhere
Thursday, 29th Aug 2013 14:53

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says left-back Aaron Cresswell is going nowhere before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday as things stand, although he doesn’t entirely rule out the possibility of a move if a club were to make a significant bid before the deadline.

McCarthy said: “Cressy’s not going anywhere. If somebody comes in for Cressy now, they’d be bonkers at this stage because for one we’d be telling them no, and for two if they did it would cost them more money with the time to negotiate a deal.

“Anybody that leaves it as late as this, 1) we’d be telling them no because we don’t want to lose him, 2) because we’d find it difficult to go and find a replacement. OK, Tyrone Mings is there but I want to try and have two players for every position as best we can.

“And 3) it would cost them a shedload more money because they’d left it to the end of the window. And we want him here to progress. We don’t want to be selling our best players.”

Asked whether he could 100 per cent guarantee that the 23-year-old would still be at Town on Tuesday, he added: “How can I say that? What if somebody comes in and offers £5 million up front? Marcus might say ‘We’ll have a bit of that and we’ll get one on loan, Ty should be fit after the window!’.

“I’m not saying he’s up for sale, but every single player has his price. I’m just not stupid, I’m pragmatic. I’m not going to give you thick answers like ‘100 per cent he’s not going to go’, then somebody bids a big load of money and I look a proper chump. I can do that without trying, believe me.”

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Guirane N’Daw is interesting Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley, as well as a number of Greek clubs. The 29-year-old, who spent the whole of last season at Portman Road, was released by parent club St Etienne at the end of June.

If somebody did come in with say £5million then I'm sure we could find a good enough replacement for cheap. And then maybe a decent winger and striker. That is if we get an offer and if Marcus Evans gives MM some money to spend.

I think we should try and get a big sum for him, and get a few additions, I think its silly that we havent signed N'Daw, him and Skuse would be amazing together!!

Once again the vermin media badgering Mick about Creswell. These are local media yet they are doing everything they can to advertise Cressy to the world.
Its getting boring now,can they not think of anything else to ask him?

Big sum would go in Evans pocket, the spending is over and fair enough really, it has got us nowhere in the last 5 years, if FFP works we coul be winners.

Cresswell is going nowhere! He is such an integral part of the team. Crazy to sell him!

Did you have to say that Mick?

Cressy is staying unless he is going !!
We should be looking to get people in anyway as on the season so far we are not going to be competing with the top sides . Get Shay Given and Bannan on loan from Villa ,DJ or Wickham also

So if he were to go for £5 million am I right in thinking that Tranmere get a fifth of the difference between £420,000 and that selling price (£916,000) which leaves us with the balance of over £4 million?

The bigger question though is would such a windfall be re-invested in the squad or not?

We are better off by far keeping him. He is a good player and our chances of getting another good player with the money are slim

One of the best in his position, in the country.. Could do with more clinical finishing up front to reward defence.. Not yet showing any sign of ability to polish off teams 4, 5 or 6 NIL

This is a 'come and get him, but you'll have to pay at least 5 million' story if ever I've seen one, perhaps they have had a low offer from someone and are upping things as others are reportedly interested?

Either way I think he'll be gone by Monday and we'll be back in the bloody loan market again!!!!

This is the terms of the deal that were decided by the Football Compensation Committee in September 2011 for Cressie's move to Ipswich.
Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/14928586

£240,000 up front
£45,000 for every 15 games Cresswell plays for Ipswich, up to 60 appearances
A further £100,000 should Ipswich be promoted to the Premier League this season or next
Tranmere due 20% of next transfer fee
Overall the transfer could be worth over £520,000 to Tranmere

"Cressy is going nowhere, unless he is going somewhere. We'll not be selling him. And we'll especially not be selling him unless we ARE selling him - and if so, it'll be for lots of money. In fact, lots more money than if we sold him for less money. And if you intend to turn up just before midnight, then bring a bigger bag of money than if you had turned up earlier. I never say "never", but it's never too late for loads of money - unless, of course, it is."

thebeat, I assume with your comment re the local media you include TWTD in that statement. Assume Phil attends the news conferences and asks questions just like the other media outlets.

Sell him I say if a club comes in with £3m or £4m. For me he is an average defender who would not cut it in the top league

Money talks I feel he wants and has to sell him for new players to come to the Town

I cannot believe MM would say these things, unless he has three players lined up for signing (including LB replacement). Players that he feels would boost the squad.

bluelodgeblue added 18:42 - Aug 29
Maybe MM is saying these things because ME is also saying the same behind the scenes. I'm getting more and more frustrated that our illustrious owner has now got cold feet and wants out! i.e. we are up for sale???

Bluelodge blue, here's hoping!!! Its obvious that evans aint interested anymore and judging by the lack of spending the last 2 summers and the citing of FFP as an excuse proves this. People seem to think evans is a hero, yes he came in at a time when we needed him but what else has he done??? He didnt pay off the debt, just put it in his name, bearing in mind he has also doubled the debt which we now owe him!!! He brought in a hopeless CEO who happened to have a wealth of knowledge all things olympics!!! Charges prem league ticket prices and has never shown his face. The club hasnt progressed during his time at the club, poss backwards in fact and us as fans deserve better and some investment despite FFP to moubt a promotion challenge.

Jimmy86, Evans has never been interested in ITFC as a football club, he saw it as an investment and thought putting a big name ie RK in charge was going to get us into the Premiership at which point he would have sold. I do actually know this to be fact but to give away my source would be to compromise some one rather badly. ME is a business man and I find it hard to have any affinity with the present set up, the family feel no longer exists, we have (I consider) an imbecile for a manager, we've had Clegg-great for corporate bollxcks, PJ an unemployable 3rd rate coach, terrible transfer dealings etc, etc.
A friend in Bristol is delighted with JET and we got Anderson. Why did we sign him for God's sake, absolutely no point unless he's going to get games and I've been told not too expect too much when he does. So, I doubt I will go to many games under the present regime this season & I do object to paying the prices being charged for no entertainment.
