Lee Nets as U21s Draw
Friday, 6th Sep 2013 15:23

Alan Lee and Jack Marriott scored the goals as Town’s U21s drew 2-2 with Fulham at their Motspur Park training ground in a friendly this afternoon.

The 35-year-old headed the Blues in front in the third minute but Dino Islamovic equalised for the home side two minutes later.

Marriott put Town back in front on nine, but Islamovic completed the scoring four minutes after the break. Late on, Town hit the woodwork.

Lee, who returned to the club as an academy coach in the summer, recently signed non-contract terms with the Blues.

Today's goal was his second for the U21s in friendlies, the Irishman having scored in the 1-0 victory over Colchester in pre-season.

Aside from the likes of Lee, Paul Taylor and Frederic Veseli, it was largely an academy squad which faced the Cottagers. Like the first team, Town’s U18s have this weekend off.

If Lee and Marriot played up front, did Taylor get a full 90 on the right?

I think (hope) that the bigger news is that Marriot scored. He surely is our future.

Oh, and how do you sign a non-contract? What exactly is signed?

why is the point of giving Lee a run out in the U"21's haven't we got some young forwards

I know its just the u21's but as Marriot is scoring against a premier league reserve side surely its time to give him a chance in the matchday squad Mick...considering our 1st team strikers are hardly setting the world alight

Any player that might make the first team bench needs match play time thats whyTaylor & Veseli were also included.

More pleased to see that Jack Marriott's continuing to consistently score for the under 21's. he could be our next Jordan Rhodes fox in the box type of striker.

Would it be possible to get in? I mean, it's not like Murphy or Nouble are setting any pants on fire at the moment.

I cannot help but smile whenever I see "Alan Lee" and "U21" used in the same sentence.

Surely the news here is that Marriot has continued his good scoring form. Inclusion in the first team squad will give him some valuable match day experience and whist I would not start a match with him up front yet, coming on for 5-10 minutes at the end of match could surely do him no harm.

Having watched the England U21 last night fail to hit a barn door with a banjo, I'm disappointed that he wasn't involved with that set up. Perhaps it's because he is languishing in the reserves. Maybe a good idea to get him out on loan somewhere to get some regular matches?

Front two for 'Boro?!

Seriously though, great that Marriott is playing well - hopefully he'll develop into a class striker (who we will actually keep this time!).

He works as a coach, hence that is his contract. Could be a good utility striker for us. Marriott is work in progress, great but he needs more time.

I think we'll see Lee partner McGoldrick in the not too distant future and in truth, I wouldn't be too asverse to it. Might be an interesting partnership!

How young are we talking? I think Veseli is only 20, which certainly seems young to me!

I'd throw Alan Lee in at home to Boro'. Met Kris Kiwomya at Sainsburys today. What a really nice guy.

On paper our forwards look very good.. Marriott not been offered a loan anywhere, as he's not performing well enough, often enough.. Murphy and McGoldrick play better off a front one or two.. if Nouble is not making the squad now, he's obviously slacking.. scratching my head with Taylor

Just saw that Alan Lee enjoyed his most successful ever period in terms of goals per game whilst he was here last time. Could it be time to emulate that?

Don't agree with playing alan lee in u21 games, what a way to block real u21's from building a future!

God were whining because Alan Lee is in the U21's what great experience for Marriott to play alongside a seasoned proven goalscorer like Lee!! I see Alan Lee coming off the bench scoring vital goals for us this season and Marriott maybe pushing on. I don't get why some of you moan so much??????

Gawd I wish our supporters could stop whining like little girls. They are so tedious. Alan Lee played he scored we should be saying well done but all most of you can do is b1tch about it. You are an embarrassment to the club.

Both Lee and Marriott could well be playing in the first team before the season is over , so good idea to play them together ? Not a bad result for our boys there

The problem with our strikers is we have no partnership. Clearly McGoldrick is our best player up front, but we have no natural partner for him. I feel that a fit Taylor could play well behind him, but none of Murphy, Nouble or now Lee would be a good fit.
Funnily enough I could see how a Lee & Marriott pairing could work, especially if Lee was 10 years younger.

I am pleased to hear that Marriott scored. Maybe worth a place on the bench especially as murphys goal scoring record is so poor.
