McCarthy: Fryatt Link Bonkers
Monday, 16th Sep 2013 14:38

Boss Mick McCarthy has dismissed a report claiming that he is set to sign Hull City striker Matty Fryatt on a three-month loan. The 27-year-old is out of favour with the Premier League Tigers having made his only appearance this season in the Capital One Cup.

McCarthy says there is nothing in the story: “That’s just bonkers. That’s just nonsense. Who is it that puts that out? I’ve not [had any interest in him] for years.

“I tried to sign Matty Fryatt years ago, I tried to sign him at Wolves. At Sunderland we were looking at him. That was a long time ago.

“No, I haven’t and we’re playing well and getting somebody on loan, my view is that I’d have to play him. Depending on who it is, of course.

“But if it’s a name, somebody who’s used to playing in somebody’s team who is coming out to get games, I’m not going take him on loan and stick him on the bench, I’m going to have to bring him in and play him.

“He’d have to be playing well to get in our team at the minute, so that’s nice, a nice problem to have.”

Never been all that keen on Fryatt myself. Either he's not got great awareness or he's the selfish type, but many is the time I've seen him wastefully going for glory when there's been options around him. I'd rather have someone who could work on an equal footing with McGoldrick.

first it was 'bollocks' now it's 'bonkers'...........he likes the 'b' word does our Mick!
don't need Matty Fryatt anyway, enough strikers of our own thanks!
Have patience, we'll be ok shortly!

I actually think he'd be a good addition, has a decent scoring record in the Championship. Either that, or give Taylor a decent run in the team with McGoldrick.

love to have fryatt here he is quality a natural goalscorer

NoCanariesAllowed most grat goalscorers are a bit selfish sometimes we need somebody who willl just go for it.
as roy keane once said skip the foreplay and get to the penetration.

Do me a favour Mick..........great result on Saturday, but we're already hugely adrift of the top end of the table and and only 1 game away from a relegation spot!

Would much rather go for someone like lita or sharp on loan but they have both been linked with sheff weds!!! Need someone to help out mcgoldrick, murphy looked well up for it on sat and changed the game, nouble was ineffective at best!!! Need to see more from him esp after being gifted a new deal, when he hasnt really done much of note to deserve 1 !!! Hoping for 3 points tommorow night COYB

We are seriously short of quality upfront it's obvious, he must be able to see this surely...MF is exactly what we need, 'he'd have to be playing well to get into our side' yeah right, we have no pace upfront what so ever and we can't keep relying on one man lets be honest..

Good Managers are always looking to improve their side, it doesn't matter what the level is....it's just that we couldn't afford him that's all..

I think he's just what is needed actually. A little goal scoring poacher who can play off McGoldrick. Never mind, I have faith that Mick knows what he's doing.

Would be a short-term measure to try to catch the top of the division which the realistic fans already recognise we are not there yet. One player on loan for 3 months isn't going to get us there at the end of the season which is when it counts. I'd rather we improved our own players and had a team of our that can really compete next season. MM's comments would fit with that.

Wait a minute...

I thought we didn't want loanees in our squad?
I thought we didn't want to fork out premier league wages on any loans?
I thought we wanted to bring youth like Marriot through?

7 games in and we're full of contradiction already!
