Town Set to Sign Stephen Hunt
Thursday, 7th Nov 2013 15:25

TWTD understands that Town are set to sign former Wolves and Reading winger Stephen Hunt on a short-term deal until January. Hunt, 32, has recently been training with the Blues at Playford Road.

Ireland international Hunt is a player Mick McCarthy was interested in signing early in the summer following his release by Wolves.

After a move to Saturday's opponents Blackpool broke down, Hunt joined the Blues squad for training, although at the time McCarthy played down the chances of him joining the club. More recently Hunt was linked with a move to Millwall.

McCarthy took Hunt to Molineux from Hull City for £3 million in August 2010 and he was a regular in his side for the next two seasons.

The ex-Crystal Palace, Brentford and Reading man missed much of last season due to calf and hernia problems before returning to action in March but couldn’t prevent his former club from plummeting into League One.

Hunt is likely to be in the Town squad travelling to Blackpool on Saturday.

Get Tunnicliffe in the middle

hhmmm...a wiff of desperation from Mick with this one I'm afraid - another manager signing (on loan it seems) an old signing, but as it will only be to January it can't hurt - as so far nobody in our midfield has the tenaciousness or creativity to unlock defenses.

Any fool can see we are playing with no natural width. Tunnicliff is no wide player so unfair to criticize, but Anderson supposedly is and yet he is starting to make me miss Lee Martin.

To quote Mick Mills (yes, I know) we should not be playing with a defensive 8 at home and expect to still score goals. The current team/squad has peaked, been found out, so time to push on again and maybe have more than 1 playmaker and/or goal scorer on the pitch.

Id say MM / TC have plans for Jan window, so to tie us over ( we obviously need experienced options the current squad cant offer), so a short term loan is what it says on the tin..."short...term....loan". Its a no brainer and who knows Mr Hunt may be just what we need over the next 6-8 weeks.

Will be hard to Judge him as the ball bypasses
our midfield

Not over excited, but perhaps that is a good thing. Many of keane and jewels signing I totally agreed with and was very excited only to be hugely disappointed in their performance a la chops, bully etc, etc, etc.

Maybe a lack of expectation will be richly rewarded.

Like this alot. We have been crying out for a wide left sided player. Hopefully Tunners will now get moved in to the centre.

Didn't Keano sign a lot of his old players?
Lessons learned?

Dear me, this seems a bit of a desperate move to me. I think we do need a natural left winger (and right winger) but to say he's past his best is a bit of an under statement. If he's only on small wages then i guess there isn't much to lose.

Tunnicliffe is great, just not so on the wing. If Hunt comes in, I expect Tunners will be moved into the middle.

I don't rate him that much, but would be good to have a natural winger, as long as he's on small wages. Hopefully if he does come in, Tunnicliffe moves to the middle and Hyam is dropped, surely it has to be?

A no brainer really for club and player. If he's in the building anyway and looking half decent in training, then why not?

I would like to point out that 12 months ago we were rock bottom of the championship Mick has built a squad that is hard to beat with next to no money. Yes we lack in some areas but this is a time for rebuilding. Yes he is 32 but he has a huge amount of experience. Give the guy a chance. If he doesn't perform he will be gone in January. Just give MM a break.

Remember all those things Wolves fans were saying to us last season? Strikes me our chickens are coming home to roost!

Was a superb player for Reading and Wolves so hopefully could be a good move. Incidentally, it is not a short-term loan as he is a free agent. He will be a permanent signing, albeit on a short-term contract.

Do the EADT have permission to use the wording from these articles? In theirs, there is a paragraph of this copied word for word

Is that the best mick can think of?

Seasider added 16:22 - Nov 7
Think this is a good move and its only initially for a few weeks.
Looks like he hasn't been able to find a club yet that pays the wages he wants, and is starting to become desperate.
Just hope he is better than our last short term signing Nigel Reo-Coker who was not much better than Mark Fish!

Hunt yet another one to get fit for another club!

Portman terrorist i think ul find anderson is a "chalk on your boots" winger but he is being asked to play slightly narrower by mick!!! Its a new role for him and he has admitted as such so ya cant blame him for not being an out and out wide man. Hunt would be a gd signing until jan if fit. Good set piece delivery and can chip in with goals
