Marriott Set to Return to Town

Town boss Mick McCarthy says striker Jack Marriott will return to Portman Road when his one-month loan spell at Carlisle is up after Saturday’s game at Mansfield.

McCarthy confirmed that the 20-year-old, an unused sub during last night's 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury, would be returning to the Blues: “He’s coming back.”

Marriott has made three starts and two sub appearances without scoring for the Cumbrians, who are currently bottom of the Football League and who sacked manager Graham Kavanagh during his time at Brunton Park.

Meanwhile, former Blues winger Reggie Lambe has joined Carlisle’s weekend opponents Mansfield following a trial.

The Bermudian previously spent time on trial with Bradford, following a three-month spell with Swedish side Nykopings BIS and a two-year stint in the MLS with Toronto FC.

Sorry is right ! Mccarthy knows when a player is good enough. People say he doesn't give young lads a chance but you look at mings, hyam, bishop and henshall ect, and ita clear to see that mick does give chances when good enough. Jack simply hasn't produced the goods. At any level....other than conference. Maybe that's his level. Shame really as would have loved to see him cracking in goals

town93 added 15:00 - Sep 17 How about a loan to Cambridge United? A newly promoted league 2 side at about mid-table currently. Nearby and would give a good indication to ITFC on his progress as it doesn't look like he'll get regular games in league 1, shame really.

The academy and young freebies such as Henshall are proving MM can spot the good young un's. I too fear for Marriot. But hope he does still come good for us.

Cakeman added 16:17 - Sep 17 Not sure if Marriott will cut it or not but we shall never know unless he is gven a meaningful run in the Championship. I don't mean the odd ten minutes here and then either. One things for sure he needs to get back from Carlisle sharpish because that experience must have set him back.

All very well to say we should loan Marriott to this club or that club, but we can only send him out to somewhere that is actually wanting a striker of his type and is willing to pay whatever portion of his wages ITFC requires. If there's no vacancy, they aren't going to want him. Lower division teams aren't necessarily going to take him just because his parent club is higher up the Football League pyramid. In other words, we may not have a choice as to where to send him!

....... masetheace - well, considering we never managed a shot on target until the 64th minute against Brighton, I would consider we still have room for improvement.

Certain players could be given 'game time' without damaging the kind of effectiveness mentioned above !!!

Having said that, before the kids and less knowledgable of the game, kick me to bits - we WON the game against Brighton, all credit where due for an important win - but it doesn't mean that the cracks are all concealed, and we are the finished article.
