Leicester Striker Wood Linked
Wednesday, 31st Dec 2014 12:43

Town are reported to be one of a number of Championship clubs interested in Leicester striker Chris Wood.

According to the Daily Mirror AFC Bournemouth, Wolves and the Blues are all eyeing the 23-year-old, who is Tommy Smith’s room-mate when they are on international duty with New Zealand. The Championship-leading Cherries would appear to be the frontrunners.

Wood is yet to start for the Foxes since their promotion to the Premier League, having scored eight goals last season, four in the Championship, four in the Capital One Cup.

Born in Auckland, Wood started his British career with West Brom, spending time out on loan with Barnsley, Brighton, Birmingham, Bristol City, Millwall and Leicester before joining the Foxes permanently for £2 million in January 2013.

Speaking on Monday, Town boss Mick McCarthy said he was in no hurry to add to his squad during the January transfer window, believing it would be difficult to improve on the players already at his disposal.

However, the Blues would currently appear to be short of an experienced striker, although it seems likely that Noel Hunt will rejoin Town at some stage during January, the Irishman’s current loan from Leeds having come to an end following yesterday’s 3-0 home victory over Charlton.

Would be a decent addition and I think he would probably pick town over Bournemouth, due to his friendship with Smith, Get on the blower to him Tommy!!!

Who ever mccarthy signs, I will support, I've criticised signings in the past and he's proved me wrong. I hope this happens and am sure wood would make an excelent addition to the squad.

Would be a great addition & actually capable of knocking in a few goals at this level (unlike Sammon).

Go get him Mick.

Would be a decent addition, see him in a front 3 with MCG and Murphy. Call him up Tommy!

Would definitely take Chris Wood. Very good striker at Championship level and great competition for Didz and Murph. Presumably it'd be on loan with view to permanent. Being Tommy Smith's room mate and 2nd in the league must make us an attractive move for him too. Does anyone know whats happening with Sammon? Isn't his loan over in January? I'd personally send him back and use the wages on a better addition.

Sammy is on loan for the season Michael11 but can't see him getting much game time if we signed wood and we got hunt back

michael11 - thought sammon had a year loan with us?

howdonblue... I think you could be right - any pre madonnas would be far too old now wouldn't they. I mean, she's been around since the mid 80's hasn't she?

SLIGHTLY worried they'll want McGoldrick in return

Bent is apparently off to Derby. He's on big money at villa, don't think we can afford him

loan for Sammon is till the end of the season! :(

Why?
Cant get into a team bottom of the premership.
And why would he come here? only to warm the bench.
And bent is spent...

Pro - knows Tommy Smith
Con - Not played this season and not prolific

Would we rather go for a Wood type ( non playing 'prem' player) or a player banging em in in lower league eg DOYLE at Chesterfeld
Confidence and wanting to prove himself at higher level ( and Irish !) Eoin Doyle

So he's not good enough to get into the bottom Prem team, he will cost money, and he is unlikely to move to just sit on our bench.

Unlikely in my opinion

would love Eoin Doyle, typical MM signing.

Bent will be
a) very expensive and b) Not the player we remember
Since 2011 struggled with form and fitness - Does he WANT IT ??

For sentimental reasons YES love to see him banging em in , but not sure he would
Prefer Doyle

If Bent is too much for us to afford how would Derby afford him? Not sure he is "spent". I think he needs the right sort of style of play. If he could link back up with Ambrose as he once did would be superb to see again! I don't think he will be signing for us any time soon though.

Yes to Wood, though Leicester may decide to keep him pending likely relegation this season.
i would also get Noel Hunt back asap. Like his brother he works damn hard up front, closing defenders down with real purpose (Didsy take note!) and he has more goals in him. Again he went close with a really good header just after coming on last night. At the end he looked proper pissed to have to say his goodbyes to the players and fans, throwing his arms up dejectedly. It looked odd after such a good win! Berra was superb again and refused to be beaten by Ventokeles pace. Murphy was outstanding again and Didsy did so many brilliant things, instant ball control, fabulous long passes, hit the post and the bar - we were all just willing him to put it in the net. Finally he did and boy did PR celebrate with him. Fantastic end to a second half where Town unfortunately failed to play classic on the ground possession football befitting of a team second in the table.

My Leicester supporting pal thinks its more about Pearson than wood, apparently falls out with players easily (knockheart another example) and if he does they don't get a look in. He would prefer wood to Nugent. Plus MM gets the best out of players. Much if the above was said about Murphy and now.... As for Derby affording Bent I cant comment, not seen the account but he's on a good 40 to 60k so we could only cover about 10% of that tops I would think. Perhaps Derby have more room or are prepared to ditch ffp and chase the dream
