Bru Close to Agreeing New Deal
Saturday, 17th Jan 2015 11:45

Town and midfielder Kevin Bru are close to agreeing a contract keeping the Mauritian international at Portman Road until 2018, according to reports in France.

FootballMercato.net reports that the deal should be confirmed early next week, the 26-year-old having impressed since joining the Blues after a trial in the summer. In line with many recent Town deals the contract seems likely to run to 2017 with an option for a further year.

Speaking to Ipswich Player on Thursday, boss Mick McCarthy confirmed that Town were looking to secure the Paris-born player for a longer period. Bru’s current deal runs to the end of the season with an option for another season.

Bru, who looks set to start in the centre of midfield, once again caught his manager's eye in the FA Cup defeat to Southampton on Wednesday.

“He has impressed whenever’s he’s come into the side,” he said. “I thought he was excellent [against the Saints]. He’s got real quality Kevin.”

Meanwhile, Town have turned down a £4 million offer from Newcastle for left-back Tyrone Mings, according to The Sun.

If there was such a bid it would have fallen well short of the Blues’ valuation of the 21-year-old, who is rated in excess of £10 million, while McCarthy has said he doesn’t anticipate Mings or any of his other regular first-teamers moving on during January.

Bru, Skuse and bishop make a pretty well rounded midfield in a 4-3-3 formation! He has to start today!

Completely deserved kevin. A really classy player who surely will get better still. He dispells the myth of players "needing to adapt" when they move countries.

I've been so impressed with Bru. He adds a lot of quality and composure. For a team that supposedly play hoof ball, a midfield 3 of Skuse, Bru and Bishop isn't too bad really is it!

Deserves a new deal. He and Bajner were worth a punt, but Bru has clearly been the considerably better player. A very good signing.

Find of the season in my opinion. When fit he should start every game with Skuse and Bishop in a midfield 3.

Bru deserves longer contract, Bajner however is a different story. If he goes out on loan and doesn't score a few then its adios in the summer!

Why did we leave it until January when from the 1st of Jan he was free to talk to other clubs. Which he can do all the way through until the summer when he will be free to walk. He was class in October and November , should of nailed him down then.Other teams will be very interested in signing him for sure.

Takes 2 to tango Bluefeast, He might have been waiting to see if he could get a more regular place in the squad before negotiating. Plus his agent will be aware that you get a better contract if you sign it with the risk of the player moving on and no replacement lined up.

great news.

This means we can use Hyam as back-up, his level.

£4m for Mings when they don't even have a manager! The laughter is loud and long

This for me is the best thing that could have happened to us this January. Bru is technically (In my opinion) the best player on our team and I thought that in both Southampton games he could have easily slotted in the Southampton line up. He needs experience and more coaching like every player but the way he can put in a good cross and keeps possession, I have no doubt that premier teams will be sniffing around by the end of this season. On top of this he's even doing a bit of dirty work! It's good because every midfielder we have has been playing brilliant but this has been keeping Bru out the team, I really hope he has a great game today like I thought he did at the Southampton games and keeps his place in the starting XI.

Bluefeast - I don't think that would work with the extra year option would it? The ball is firmly in the club's court on this one. I think this is very good contract negotiations and the way ahead for the future.
