Yorwerth's Crawley Loan Confirmed
Tuesday, 29th Sep 2015 10:54

Town have confirmed that centre-half Josh Yorwerth has joined League Two Crawley Town on loan until October 25th.

The 20-year-old is set to make his Red Devils debut in this evening's game at Newport County, whose manager and assistant manager are legendary Town central defenders Terry Butcher and Russell Osman.

Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford outlined how the switch came about.

“He comes recommended by Mick McCarthy to [Crawley manager] Mark [Yates] and he will be in the squad tonight," he told the Crawley News.

“We have Jon Ashton injured and Joe McNerney injured, so we will take Josh for 28 days and what happens after then remains to be seen.

“We have strengthened the squad to cover the unfortunately injuries to two key players."

Yates added: “Josh is highly regarded by Ipswich and we’re delighted Mick McCarthy has allowed us to have him for a month.

"We have a few defenders out with injury at the moment but Josh is going to be an excellent addition to the squad.”

Town boss McCarthy had said he was keen to get Wales U21 international Yorwerth out on loan to get games, although the move has taken place more quickly than the Blues boss had anticipated.

Yorwerth made a goalscoring Town debut in the Capital One Cup first round tie against Stevenage and featured in the subsequent games against Doncaster and Manchester United in the same competition.

With the Blues now out Yorwerth, like Josh Emmanuel, is unlikely to play much if any first-team football at Town in the months prior to the FA Cup third round.

The Bridgend-born defender, who spent time on loan in non-league with Hereford last season, joined the Blues in the summer after a trial having been released by Cardiff City in May.

Feel for him. He's good enough to play vs Man Utd, where he's done a good job, then gets farmed out to a team rapidly heading towards conference. He should be in the first team ahead of Smith imo.

Ahead of Smith! not sure about that at the minute.
Smith has been our best defender this season and has chipped in on the score sheet.

Lets see how Josh gets on playing regular first team football. I have to say I have liked what I have seen of him to date and I agree that he could turn out to be a first team defender in future.
I remember it was a loan move to Colchester a few seasons ago that was the making of Tommy Smith.

Best of luck Josh, we all hope you get a good run of games at Crawley!

On current form yorksblue,Smith should be the first one of the back four to be picked.
Hopefully Berra's recent dip in form is very short term and he will soon be back to his best but Tommy Smith is playing better than him at the moment.

Good luck Josh,I think regular games will benefit you and(in due course) ITFC.

Good experience.
I was very impressed with him against ManU, he was totally unfazed by who he had to mark. MOTM.
He really could be a really top defender for us. Another gem that MM has unearthed.
I would disagree with some posts and say that he looks a better prospect for us than Malarczyk.

Shame really . The way our back 4 are playing he should be a regular for us .

Hardly being 'farmed out' Yorksblue more being given a chance to get some games. He wouldn't get in he first team for the next 28 days, especially as there is another International break in a week.

Good for him wanting to get game time!

Completely agree Yorksblue, he was our best defender at Old Trafford and looked class.

That said, with the international break on the way, it's a great chance to ship a good few out on loan for them to come back stronger.

Good loan deal for him , it does weaken our back up though and pressure for places on a very dodgy back four.Having no pressure for places is bad as because it doesn't matter how badly they play they will only get dropped if someone is injured even though they have the worst defensive record in the league .
Hopefully MM will get a good standard premiership loan in to goalkeeper ,right back and centre back
from players not playing -
GK Mannone ,Speroni even Kelvin Davis !!
RB Rangel ,Simpson , Bardsley,Trippier,Yedlin .
CB Marriappa , Williamson ,Brown ,Pogognoli

this would involve spending some money though or just keep plodding on telling us what good players they all are

League Goals conceded with different keepers Gerken P 6 let in 13 , Bart P 3 let in 3

Good management here. It lets him continue to get first team football rather than go back to the reserves/U21. If he does well, he comes back fired up looking to push on.

I am sure he will do well on loan. As has Matt Clarke at Pompey who is very much behind them being on top of their league. The problem is that loan players miss out on training with the first team squad and playing the fluent football from the back through the midfield. Oh err .........

Superb against United, I'd have him in over Berra at the moment. Certainly looked streets ahead of the Pole.

Well that's the kiss of death under MM - generally means the club will let him go in another years time.
@mutters - heard this before - think Marriot, Hewitt, Wordsworth, Veseli etc.

from the brief appearance ,i thought he was a decent player and would have a future with the club, bit puzzled really .

Good move for Yorwerth, I hope he does well!

Disagree Timmy.
It was MM who brought him in. MM started him v ManU. And now MM thinks that 28 days of playing 1st team football will benefit him in his development. He's still young and needs time. He's not considered a regular starter at ITFC yet so to me it makes perfect sense to let him play. Can't see how this is the kiss of death.

Good for Yowerth and Clarke to both be out on loan.

Wanna see Donnolly / McDonnell / Alabi / and a few others also go now to see what they can do.

I can't agree with those who think he is better than Berra & Malarczyk.
Good in the air & a goal threat from corners yes, very willing & puts himself about yes, a good young prospect absolutely, but Berra is proven quality who is just shaking off the cobwebs of a niggly pre-season I'm sure and I like the look of Malarczyk, who's positioning & decision making is much superior to Yorwerth at this stage of his development.

Down marked for stating our back four is conceding goals and that they have no competition for places and that Barts record is far better than Gerkens !!! Laughable

Also to those disagreeing with TimmyH please list the players that MM has sent out on loan to gain experience that came back and played for us again regularly ?

Our options in defense are very promising for the latter part of the season.
It bodes well for the coming months and into the new year.

Dear Brian a Mull ... and all who agreed with him - SORRY WRONG BUTTON... meant to agree not disagree and now cannot see how to change my vote !!!!

Agree - Tommy Smith gets blamed for everything when he spends so long covering for Chambers and Berra (AT THE MOMENT) and is also doing all this whilst playing on the wrong side for his natural game which Berra is either unwilling, or not good enough to do!

AGREED that a month with first team games is better by far than a month of training !

Surco72:
I didn't downmark you "... for stating our back four is conceding goals and that they have no competition for places and that Barts record is far better than Gerkens !!!"
I disagreed with your suggestions for Premiership loanees, which I feel are unrealistic (eg Trippier) or not good enough (eg Mannone) or unnecessary; as I think we have enough decent centre halves - this time last year we were all patting ourselves on the back for having the 3 best CBs in the Championship. We just need Berra back to his best and get Chambers out of the RB position. Tommy Smith has been our best defender so far this season.

I have upmarked you many plenty in the past and agree with you on Bart v Gerken and that we need a better RB option. I just hope Mick starts playing Jonny Parr there for a few games.

As for TimmyH's post, I disagreed because I think sending Yorwerth on loan to play regular league football can only be a good thing for him and his development. Hopefully he'll blossom like Clarke appears to be and he'll come back a better player for it. If, like Marriott, Veseli & Hewitt, it suggests that he isn't going to make it at the level we require and he is ultimately released, then that will be in the best interest of the club also.

Len ... Thanks for the response but why do you think the loans are unrealistic if we are willing to spend as previously stated by the club , Trippier hasn't played a league game for Spurs seems well down the pecking order and they are now out of the cup , surely as some have stated it is better playing first team football than training ?
And personally I think Mannone is an average premiership keeper which is better than two lower average championship keepers that we have .

A year is a long time in football and our centre backs have not looked or played like the best in the league since this time last year as our defensive record would prove 3 or so clean sheets since xmas is not promotion form which ever way you look at it and something needs to change , even if it is a short term loan to keep our players on their toes and get them through this poor patch because just hoping it will change rarely works
