New Name for Football League Thursday, 12th Nov 2015 18:45
From the end of this season the Football League will rebrand as the English Football League, or EFL for short.
The new name will also see a new logo - only the fourth in the Football League’s 127-year history - featuring 72 balls representing each of the clubs in three ‘swathes’ referencing the three divisions.
Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey explained the move: "The new EFL name rightly emphasises the central role our clubs play at the heart of English professional football.
"In an increasingly challenging global sports market, it is absolutely essential that sports properties can project a modern identity that not only resonates with their regular audience but is also easily recognisable to a broader audience of potential fans, viewers and commercial partners.
"We believe the EFL name and brand will give our competitions an identity that is new and distinct, while at the same time retaining our unique heritage.
“As such, it will be something that all fans can identify with - whether they be young or old, at home or abroad."
Harvey says the divisions themselves will retain their current names: “The Championship, League One and League Two divisional titles have proven popular with fans since their introduction in 2004 and have since been used by leagues in other countries and in other sports. It is therefore our intention to incorporate them into the new EFL brand.

Nothing groundbreaking, though seems pretty transparent to me that it's an attempt to get it closer to the so-called "EPL" in the views of the American market. Won't mind as long as they don't fiddle with the name 'Championship' though - I have come to like it, even if I was a tad sceptical back in the Division One days. (No, not THAT Division One, the... oh, never mind.)
Slightly ignorant towards clubs like Cardiff,Newport and possibly Swansea and Wrexxham..probably hasn't even occurred to the idiots in charge of our game.
