Released full-back or midfielder Kyle Hammond will have impressed any watching scouts by scoring twice as Town’s U21s beat Watford 2-1 away in a game played behind closed doors at the Hornets’ training ground this afternoon.

The 20-year-old, who has been told his contract will not be renewed in the summer, lashed in a brilliant opening goal in the 10th minute but the home side hit back via Alex Jakubiak just after the hour mark.

The game looked to be ending in a draw until Hammond’s second won it for the Blues with two minutes remaining.

The former Westbourne High School pupil is interesting a number of clubs with Colchester United understood to be amongst them.

Piotr Malarczyk was the only overage player involved with the first team in action at Bolton tomorrow, while Andre Dozzell was in the team and therefore won't have travelled to the North-West.

U21s: Crowe, Emmanuel, Malarczyk, C Smith, Hammond, Blanchfield, Dozzell, Guldbrandsen, McKendry, Morris, McLoughlin. Subs: Marsden, Fowler, Downes, Meldrum.

Mark added 17:59 - Mar 7 If Hammond can get himself a deal at Colchester, good for him. I suspect Malarczyk will return to Poland in the summer. He reminded me a bit of Bajner both times I saw him, looking out of his depth. That's a bit of a surprise when he captained a side in the Polish top league, but there you go.
