Digby Signs
Tuesday, 28th Jun 2016 10:10

Town have confirmed the signing of Paul Digby from Barnsley on a permanent basis, following his loan at the end of last season. The central defender or midfielder has signed a one-year deal with an option for a further season.

The clubs agreed that the 21-year-old would join the Blues on a free transfer if he impressed during his spell when he joined in January.

Manager Mick McCarthy subsequently confirmed that he would be taking up that option, while Digby said he was keen to stay at Portman Road.

I am pleased with that.

He looked promising when he played and is only 21. Hopefully will get to play and not just warm the bench.

In principle, I'm in favour of us signing young players with potential. However, our problem is that if they only play in the U-21s plus the Cup games, it's hard to develop them so they end up being loaned out.

As 12th_Man says he looked impressive enough in that game at Mbro.

Good news.

A toast to our new signing...

To past and present
To modesty and refinement
To foibles and follies
To courage and curiosity
To adventure and abandon
To science and satire
To bishops and brigands
To green and pleasant
To England

I am quite surprised as to how short the contract length is!
You would think McCarthy would know enough about him by now to have signed him for longer if he was good enough after all these past months under his charge.

McCarthy's judgement in bringing in players doesn't fill me with a great amount of confidence these days, and the way he goes about managing Ipswich are becoming about as good as that Roy Hodgson

For me he is another one for the future or to come in in the event of a few injuries. Could potentially be a decent signing for future years, but not yet the type of player we need to press for promotion. To do that we need to sign some serious quality in the midfield areas. Only Bishop is good enough as even Skuse was lacking last season and isn't likely to score one goal, let alone seven or eight.

Having said that we now have decent defensive options and plenty of cover. Keeper situation is also good. Depending upon whether any of our strikers should leave, other than signing a potential season long loan for cover, the strike force is okay. Let's get that midfield strengthened!!

Am I missing something? When I saw him live he looked really poor.

Not sure whats going on now, how many players are we going to play at the back? Does this mean that the players that were 1st on the team sheet last season despite not playing well are in danger of loosing their place in the coming season? I'll believe that when I see it. Should be a big, big season for 2 new young fullbacks and a new young centre half.

Really pleased that he has signed, centre midfield please Mick, as he is noisy and demands the ball, good in the air and young. A really good winger is now required, Frazer, yes please, he is the standard that we require...any of our TWTD scouts have any ideas?

In the words of the late great Brian Clough "He's a clown" Surely we can do better than this?
