Needham Market Youngster on Trial
Tuesday, 4th Oct 2016 19:19

Town have taken Needham Market youngster Max Booth on trial, TWTD understands.

Booth, 17, came through the academy at the Ryman League Premier Division club and has become a regular in their first-team squad this season, making two starts and five sub appearances, scoring once. He recently signed a two-year deal with the Marketmen.

The midfielder isn’t the first Needham Market academy scholar to spend time with the Blues.

Last season defender Keiran Morphew spent two spells on trial at Portman Road and impressed Mick McCarthy while playing in the Town U21s but not enough to be offered terms.

Town's U23s are set to play a behind-closed-doors friendly with Southend United on Wednesday.

Speaking last Thursday, manager Mick McCarthy said he would look to arrange a midweek game with Jonny Williams, who played 45 minutes against Liverpool on Sunday, again expected to be involved.

Is he a winger or a central midfielder? We seem to have a lot of young central mids at the moment. Dozzell, McDonnell, Kenyu, Bishop. Plus Willian's and the Everton lad.

It's a shame our youngsters cant displace our dynamic midfield trio. Wouldn't have this remark when Robson or Burley managed our club

If he is a central midfielder he's got no chance poor lad! We all know that Skuse Cagney and Douglas Lacey have those positions on sidepass lockdown unfortunately! Skuglas love nothing better than playing some Suffolk Tika Taka sidepasses along the half way line hoping to whip the North Stand up into a heated frenzy at they strut their array of 5 yard tippy tappy passing for all to see! They really know how to work a crowd! Although if the truth be told, if they don't start to thread the ball forwards soon they might not have much more of a crowd left to work with!
You certainly wouldn't want to play pass the parcel with Skuse and Douglas, it would probably go on all night and would inevitably prove very boring.
And on another note, I just found the perfect Xmas stocking filler for Essex57:

And I wonder, can the first team not start to play some behind-closed-doors fixtures to save us all the agony!? ;-)

He's a target man and shadow striker who has been quite prolific at the level of football he's played at. He deserves a chance to step up and I wish him good luck. It's a massive step though. Story below about someone's trip to see Leiston vs Needham (where Booth scored 5 goals, but 2 were ruled off side)

The match day programme says it's a reserve game and Phil says he's a midfielder; but worth looking at anyway.

Any news on fitness of our team for Blackburn? Williams, Mcgoldrick, Coke etc?

Max Booth ehhhh? .... Well I'm pretty positive that with such an ingenious name one of his football talents simply have to be to "kick it loooong" then (just to use a household Terry Connor instructional TERM, one which btw frequently can be picked up loud and clear during a game if just situated close enough to the ITFC bench area!).

Needham Market ehhhh? .... Quite a bit obscure and off-the radar indeed (didn't someone here on TWTD not already feel inclined to lamentingly use the old idiom "Desperate People Do Desperate Things"???) Anyway, to those that basically says: "Why (coming from Needham Market)?" I respectfully counter with "Why not?".... As it certainly wouldn't be the first or last time a true superstar seed initially was discovered in a lower non-league club, wouldn't it now folks? :-)

So best of luck to you Max, obviously .... However I'm near-dead certain you surely gonna need said luck lad if you EVER are gonna supplant either of our 2 super duper stoic midfield stalwarts I.E. smooth passing & ultra creative 'WhatsMyExSkuse' or his likewise superior passing & hyper creative '"sideshow" nowadays known by his brand new wannabe-gangsta-rapper nickname 'Snooze Doggy Douglas'! :-)

Good luck! You'll need it - in more ways than one. Plenty young enough to make the grade.

What a shame, in the extreme, that so many people use a piece of good news plus an exciting time for a young player to vent their wrath at the current on field failings.
No I am not at all happy with what is currently on offer at Portman Road, but please do not use this particular thread to actively discourage, as I am led to believe, a young up and coming player who just may get his chance in the professional game.
If a day is a long time in politics a year is a long time in football, or was Leicester City just a dream?

And the great thing about the lad is that he has a hairstyle which serves as a constant reminder to us all of what the West did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

1 goal in 7 games. Already more prolific than anything we have.

He will never be given a chance.likeso many of the academy players.McCarthy will stick to his old gang of favourites how ever badly they play.

If you cannot say something nice to a young lad coming on trial don't say anything at all. All you moaners complain about our boring football but I for one am getting very bored with the same thing posted over and over again not an original thought out of any of you. JUST GIVE IT A REST.
1

midastouch added 15:49 - Oct 5
Talking of giving it a rest, I wish our manager would give Douglas a rest! ;-)

Seriously Tony88, how do you think we can start to score some goals and begin to move in the right direction (as we really are crying out for a goal or two!)?

Gcon added 16:19 - Oct 5
midazzzzzzzzzzztouch.
Keep moaning away about them and booing them off the pitch. That always boosts confidence and leads to goal scoring heroics.
-3

midastouch added 16:29 - Oct 5
Tell us your ideal starting 11 for Saturday please Gcon?
Would it include both Skuse and Douglas?
Would you select Chambers at right back?
Will you still back Mick come Xmas if we are sitting at the wrong end of the table?
I'm all for getting behind the team but surely they need to start throwing us at least few crumbs as in shots on target and better still goals scored and points secured.
I'm not having a dig, I'm just keen to know if you back McCarthy's recent team selections and if you think we'll start to move up the table with the likes of Skuse and Douglas pulling (or not pulling) the strings?

Personally for what little it is worth (as it's all just a matter of opinion) I would be looking to build the team round these players (in no particular order) and filling the wholes with new signings or giving the youngsters a chance to step up...

Bialkowski
Tommy Smith
Berra
Bishop
McGoldrick
Sears (striker not winger!)
Dozzell
Lawrence
Grant
Emmanuel
Webster
Williams
Grant Ward
Conor Grant
Crowe
Morris

You'll notice some noticeable absentees such as Skuse, Douglas, Chambers, Varney, Pitman, Hyam, Bru, Knudsen. Pitman and Knudsen is a tough call for me, I'm almost on the fence, and I used to think slightly more highly of Bru but I've realised this season that he's often too anonymous and probably doesn't affect the game enough. Best I can't really say one way or another as just haven't seen enough of him yet to tell.
I can't comment on some of the youngsters either as I just haven't seen enough of them either to know.
