Williams Out for 12 Weeks Having Undergone Surgery
Wednesday, 21st Dec 2016 20:27

On-loan midfielder Jonny Williams is facing 12 weeks out having undergone shoulder surgery earlier today.

Manager Mick McCarthy revealed the news at this evening’s PLC AGM: “Jonny Williams has had an operation on his shoulder today, he’s got 12 weeks out.

“He slipped on to the track at Wigan, he got clattered onto the track at Wigan. He went for a scan and he went for an operation today.

“My thoughts are with Jonny, he’s only ever had accidents and injuries. He got kicked off the pitch against Watford and he got another one at Wigan. He’s very unfortunate, Jonny.”

Physio Matt Byard later told the club site: “Jonny had what is basically a dislocation of his shoulder at Wigan.

“There was significant cartilage damage and a small fracture and the shoulder joint was completely unstable.

“He had surgery earlier today to stabilise the joint and we are looking at around 12 weeks before he is back playing again, without any setbacks.”

Very disappointing news, although McCarthy hasn't felt him worthy of starting (or even coming on as a sub) over recent weeks, besides at Wigan. I remember it said that we only have to pay when fit, so maybe this will cost Palace rather than us in financial terms? (here's hoping) I am sorry for Williams himself, it must be horrible to keep getting these injuries.

That's the trouble when yer packet is so large!

....on a serious note. Does anyone actually believe this? Because he was pretty peed off not getting any match time once fit, (his friends were talking about how fed up the player was regarding his lack of game time whilst sat in the row behind us at a recent home game), and when he didn't get on they said, " well that's the night out gone now, he'll be so pissed off he won't want to go out"..........."Jonny wishes he'd stayed at Palace"....... then only a week ago he ws being linked with a move to a PL Club. So now out of the blue he has another injury?! When did he pock this up then? Or is it just a reason to get recalled to his Club for sale to this PL club?

Something doesn't seem quite right here if I'm being honest.

Williams makes Mcgoldrick look like superman! The whole thing is baffling. Re-signing him after a couple of injury plagued previous attempts, then not even playing him anyway, first sign of a run in the team & poof, injured. Oh well, at least Douglas the Magnificent will be replacing him, Joy oh Joy.
Best of luck Jonny, get well soon.

" I'm sorry but he's a complete waste of time and money "

Under the terms we only pay ££££ when he plays a game this time around so he's clearly not a waste of £££ at all.

Anyway, finally gets in the side and apparently had a good game at Wigan then this. Absolutely ridiculous get well soon Jonny some promising careers are ruined by injury and appears yours may be.

Evans - Mick requires backing in January. Over to you.

I think I saw him in town wearing his mac and beret, shortly before he fell over the kerb and went head first down an open manhole ...

So much talent but cannot help thinking football and Jonny Williams don't get on.
Great pity because he comes across as as a really decent chap and it is nice to see the nice guys do well.

Back to square one I guess with the well known infamous duo of Bodgit and Scarper AKA Skues and Douglas joining forces in midfield again.

Really decent guy and a good footballer. Here's to a quick recovery.

PhilTWTD

Any idea if Jonny was on a pay-per-play contract?

A couple of my mates got selfies with Tabb yesterday, but might just be visiting friends and family for Xmas. Fits in well with the squad and could replace Williams.

Ffs. Our best player out for most of the rest of the season.

Biggest problem with this is it means the idiot will put Douglas back in with Teddy out aswell.

Still hope Santa brings us a new manager for Xmas who brings in some players to replace the dross we have. Two fullbacks two central midfielders who can run pass and score, and a goalscorer. Then we may just survive.

Sad to hear, but the lad is fragile. Can't tell me gerrard and lampard never got kicked/pushed over, yet they both played about 40 games a season for ten years. Some people are born with little weaknesses and I think johnny is one of them, so is mcgoldrick.

Prebss007

Little chance of new signings given our financial situation. Skuse, Douglas, Ward and Lawrence will have to do as our midfield. We have Dozzell and Coke in case of injuries. Just hope we do not sell too many players in January to make up the deficit.

The new Darren Anderton.

The perfect excuse to be playing our up and coming young stars...

Dozzell should be given the opportunity, or in the case of ME "the shop window for offers"..

About sums up our season.

Steve Stacey was bought from Wrexham at the tail end of the Mcgarry days. Lasted about 30 mins of his debut. Doesn't play many games before disaappearing

You ignorant selfish people...you all know JW is a big talent and all he wants to do is play...did you think he would have done this deliberately...this could be a career ending or certainly a career stalling injury and not one of you has expressed a modicum of sympathy for him.The man is a Welsh international FFS ...we all want ITFC to do well and improve ..injuries happen..look what happened to Mings ...get real and get your blue heads out of the Portman road turf and think a little more laterally

I actually had a chuckle to myself when I read the headline. You just knew it was coming at some point! Feel sorry for the fella but this is getting beyond a joke.

Before I say anything else - way way.

Go do one.

Williams and other players like him are consistently targetted and taken out in this division while referees consitently fail to apply the rules regarding deliberate fouls.
As MM said "he got clattered onto the track at Wigan". He didn't "slip" Dangerous play at least. Red card.

Of course back in the day the Hunters of this world warned off the cynically hard tacklers by sorting them out first....

Unless he has some protection on the pitch we can expect to see the same treatment meted out to young Dozzell when his time comes.
