McCarthy: New Signing Rowe Catching the Eye
Friday, 10th Feb 2017 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy says new winger Danny Rowe caught the eye during Monday’s 8-0 U23s victory over Watford at Portman Road. The 24-year-old, who joined the Blues from Vanarama National League Macclesfield during the transfer window, played the first 45 minutes as Gerard Nash’s side romped to a 5-0 half-time lead.

“He did catch the eye in a good performance,” McCarthy said. “And Watford started well actually, the end result was because our lads kept going and they were below what you’d expect.

“Fair play to our lads, they didn’t let go because it could have been easy at half-time to end up the score just staying 5-0, but it didn’t, they kept going.

“Danny caught the eye, it was a great ball for the first goal, he put a few crosses in, he put his shift in. I’m looking forward to seeing him fully fit.

“He’s come from training two days a week and it doesn’t look like that because he’s a real powerhouse, he’s obviously trained hard himself, but he’s just got a little niggle in his groin.

“Coming from training two days a week to full-time training and the intensity of the games will be more, certainly training is for him. We just need to make sure he doesn’t get injured.”

Certainly cant say Mick hasn't tried to get in permanent wingers of real quality. Danny Rowe is a long shot but hes made a good start.

"Watford started well"?
Mick, please don't say "we started well" after Villa beat us 8-0 on Saturday.

He certainly caught the eye on Monday in the U23 game against Watford, as did Moore, they just could not handle him in the air or on the floor. The transfer window might just be good for Town, no big money signings, but with a set of players signed with something to prove. Villa away will be the acid test, will MM pick team and tactics that suit our best?
