Hull Midfielder Meyler Linked
Friday, 2nd Mar 2018 11:03

Town have been linked with a summer move for midfielder David Meyler, who is set to leave Hull City.

Yesterday it emerged that the Tigers, who were due to face the Blues in tomorrow's now postponed fixture at Portman Road, have decided not to take up an option in the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international’s contract and he will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

According to the Daily Star, Town are considering a move for the former Cork City and Sunderland man.

Twenty-times-capped Meyler, who is 6ft 2in tall, was a regular for Hull earlier in the season but has featured only four times in the Championship since Nigel Adkins took charge in early December.

While Town boss Mick McCarthy’s contract is up at the end of the season with his future yet to be decided, he has said he is working as if he will still be manager next season and is looking at potential additions.

However, experienced central midfield recruits who are likely to be commanding big wages wouldn’t appear to be a priority once a number of current players return from injury.

Tom Adeyemi is expected to back later this month and Emyr Huws, Andre Dozzell and Teddy Bishop will all be fit for pre-season.

Youngsters Tristan Nydam, 18, and Flynn Downes, 19, also look set for more first-team involvement in 2018/19.

Is it not strange that desire should so many years outlive performance?

Would be a decent signing. Bishop and Huws will be fit for preseason but probably be injured again by the first match of next season so reinforcements needed.

Good player and captain material coming in to his peak. We would be lucky to get him, there would be a lot of competition for his signature and a decent wage required. Would improve our squad and add serious bite .

Living near Hull we watch them when ITFC are not in the North of England. Meyler is slow on pace and doesn't appear to read the game that well. He prefers passing backwards than going forward. Someone please tell Mick not to consider buying him - even if he is free he will be costly.

Always the same links.....can't we have something different? We have been successful over the years with signings from Holland....would be great to find another Arnold Muhren or Frans Thijssen.....etc. Sure there is younger talent we can target and lets not forget the great talent that we fail to use too. Do not have to look to far on this front, just use them before we loose them.

Yet another link to a player not wanted or not considered good enough for a fellow championship club. It would be nice to sign an up an coming player who's club were desperate to hang on to them because they were considered 'good'.

Another defensive midfielder to add to our midfielders defending a 0-0 draw. Just the kind of average player MM wants to plonk next to Skuse. .

If there is any truth in this! i am concerned it may mean MM is staying. MM so needs to go!

If Mick stays I expect this to happen. Proper bloke etc. Worst thing is I could see Mick starting him Skuse and Hyam instead of Huws Dozzell Downes
