Do you realise how pathetic most of you sound? On this thread you cringeworthy bunch have criticised his name his clothes his background Not one of you has bothered to look at his policies. What a sanctimonious bunch you all seem to be - and the funniest is that most of you think you are better people than the tories you seem to spend your lifetime abusing. |

'dumping sh1t in rivers' You clearly know nothing about the subject. there is less sewage in the rivers than ay any time in the past 100 years. The Conservatives introduced monitoring on all waterways which is why you hear about it more. It really hasn't got worse but you carry on with your totally incorrect soundbites |

It isn't a general policy for the Lib-Dems nationally, especially in the areas where they are the incumbent! |
| Forum Reply | We're all going to have to make some selfless sacrifices to get this country at 13:32 25 Apr 2024
what, if anything is stopping you overpaying tax and making your own extra contributions? Is it the fact that you won't be able to blame everything on 'kleptomaniac tory regimes'? If you are so sure that you are correct then why do you need someone else to force you to do it. It is very easy being super virtuous but far more difficult to actually do something about it |
| Forum Reply | Miners strike, the front line. at 13:32 20 Feb 2024
Not surprised to see this debate (as usual on here) descend into an anti-tory argument. Of course it couldn't be framed as the unions wanting to take down the government (far closer to the truth). The facts clearly show that Thatcher closed far fewer mines than most, if not all, her recent predecessors. The unions thought they would force the government to back down as they had done before but they clearly forgot that the government had been stockpiling coal in case there was a strike. It's easy to find the facts about pit closures - just google it. |
| Forum Reply | I know it's an old article, but it is just so to the point, and obvious and why at 15:24 29 Sep 2023
If the population grows then the economy must grow with it, unless you really do want the human race to go backwards. Not wanting growth is far easier to say in an advanced western democracy but how would that leave the devloping world? Stripping out the politics - which I know is impossible for a lot of you - the economic growth seen in this countyr in the past 100 years has seen living standards and life expectancy to increase dramatically. Unless you want the opposite of this the how would it all be funded? |
| Forum Reply | Tory Mayoral candidate is a racist at 11:59 16 Sep 2023
Calling her racist got 'liking' the tweets she did is beyond ridiculous, and goes past if the way towards why its difficult to get people to stand for any public office. The tweets in question, cannot, by any reasonable standards, be described as racist. Agreed that Enoch Powells river of blood speech could be considered so but these were nothing to do with that. This is clearly just another smear by a politically led organisation that completely ignores similar instances by any left-wing person, such as Sadiq Khan, who once called moderate Muslims 'uncle toms' on the Iranian backed press TV. The fact that so many of you agree puts you in a similar bracket. |
| Forum Reply | Brexit definitely won't lead to a lowering of environmental standards pt2748 at 16:57 13 Sep 2023
Perhaps you need to do more research on the subject, rather than relying on one source. A source that clearly has a paticular bias against anything done as a result of Brexit. A divergence does not automatically mean the standards have dropped, which was the promise. If you could point to a scientific study that proved your point, rahter than an opinionated article then perhaps you post would carry more weight. |

I was quoting a well-renowned climate scientist. I am sure he knows more on the subject than either of us! He did go into further detail on how the El Nino was affecting the sea temperatures but it was way above my head. |
| Forum Reply | Here's another one of those startling 2023 outlier graphs. at 13:32 25 Aug 2023
There was a climate scientist on R4 yesterday talking about the penguin story that is currently in the news. When questioned on this very subject he explained that this years events could well be more down to the El Nino effect than climate change. Before I get jumped on this does not mean I do not believe in climate change or that I am denying it is happening but you do really have to look at all possible causes before jumpoing to a conclusion that you are not qualigfied to give. Just look at the graph you posted - apart from this current year what is does show is there has been little change in the Antartctic sea-ice in the last 44 years, |

Try telling that to those who already live frugally. There are billions of people on this planet that have a standard of life lower than that experieced by the working classes in Victorian times, how do those people live more frugally? Your statement is complete nonsense written by someone from a western democracy who almost definitely is not living under the poverty line. Most western countries have done an awful lot to reduce carbon emmisions - the easy wins have been taken. It would make far more sense to stop virtue signalling to the world and concentrate our resources on helping those in developing countries. It makes no sense at all to spend billions making what will amount to tiny changes in the worlds carbon emmissions when we could be spending that money in developing countries which will then have a far more positive effect. Most of your post is alarmist nonsense and just the rhetoric that puts people off making any changes. |
| Forum Reply | Nigel Farage’s boss made a fortune betting against Natwest at 15:52 28 Jul 2023
I am pretty sure, no, actually I am 100% sure, that Farage did not start this episode. That was all the fault of the person who briefed the BBC completely false information. anything that happened after that is completely the fault of the banking group who clearly did not plan this very well. Regardless of your opinion of Farage, who in their right mind would deliberatly brief jouralists incorrect info? As if he wasn't gong to react in the way he did. The whole sorry episode is completely the fault of the bank & once this started a blind man could see that the bank's share price would fall. |

You clearly are no believer in democracy. The government was given a 5-year term and you cannot change that just beacuse you believe them to not be popular. And whilst your pondering that and thinking of new ways to slag off your political opponents maybe you could consider where Nick Brown has been for the past year, and why he still draws his salary? |
| Forum Reply | Sunak announces at least 6% pay rises for public sector at 17:01 13 Jul 2023
Acutally I think you are slightly incorrect there - so do many economists, including those at the BOE. Many people had larger than usual savings after COVID - if you rememebr, the government were even considering taxing them! Depsite huge rises in every day costs, things such as holidays, flights etc are rising in price faster than inflation. There is a valid suggestion that increased savuings have insulated many people against the rising costs we have seen recently. so perhaps I do not have a 'fundamental understanding' of where inflationary pressures are. The BOE said exactly the same only two weeks ago so maybe they are all wrong also! |
| Forum Reply | Sunak announces at least 6% pay rises for public sector at 16:55 13 Jul 2023
Because to pay for those level of pay rises we would need to borrow more - more government borrowing would almost definitely raise inflation. It would also send a signal to those in the private sector. We would likely see higher rises which would then inflate prices all over the place. Please tell me how you think they would not raise inflation? |
