Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tottenham Set to Make New Wickham Bid?
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2010 22:36

Tottenham are reportedly set to make Town a new bid of £8 million for striker Connor Wickham. Spurs previously offered the Blues £5 million for the 17-year-old, who as part of the proposed deal would have returned to Portman Road on loan next season.

That bid is now believed to have been turned down, but Harry Redknapp is said to be ready to offer £8 million to test the Blues’ stated intention to keep hold of one of English football’s hottest properties, with Town claimed to have put a £10 million price-tag on the England U17 international.

Last week, chief executive Simon Clegg insisted that Wickham is “an integral part of the squad for next season and going forward”, while the player, who signed a two-year contract in April, said he had “no intention of moving elsewhere”.

£8M could fund a promotion team for us....but if we go up with him, we'll be so much richer.....will it be worth the risk?

That'll be 10 million and off to Spurs then, hope they give him back for a season :(

Lets be honest, £10m Clegg & ME will cash in, Clegg would sell his Grandma for a tenner!! if he thought it would keep him in a well paid job!!

I'm sorry, but if he is the 'new Wayne Rooney', as so many people will try and have us believe.... do Spurs not remember that the original Wayne Rooney was sold to Manchester United for £30m!!!

Have we ever been offered £8m for a player before? Much as we all want CW to stay, I fear that sort of sum might prove too tempting, particularly if RK has expensive rebuilding plans in mind...

a polite "No" and move on....don't sell, and don't cave in to the fact it's big money, promotion will earn us so much more, and we need our best players to stand any chance of that, and CW is very much one of our best!!

hold off until Nov/Dec and see how we are in the table? if struggling to consolidate play-off spot, sell to fund 'essential' players in Jan window

even for 8 million i think we'd be stupid to sell... we need him next season, plain and simple.

Don't do it for the money.

If we need to raise fund for Chopra etc, then surely moving on Bruce, Stead, Priskin, Garvan, maybe even walters could do the trick!

If Tottenham really want him that badly, do to them what clubs have done to us the past couple of years... Push them so much and completely rip them off!! £12 million plus...

This is going to carry on all summer by the looks of things. I'm more than slightly worried that all this this paper talk will affect CW - he's only 17 after all.

I'd be gutted to see him leave but every player has to have his price.....

HighSeasBlue added 00:05 - Jun 9
It is true to say every player has his price we have to realise he is only on a two year deal. For the next two years we will not be able to command such a high price as now. Hopefully we won't sell him and build an Ipswich team to play a game to suit our best prospect for years. If Tottenham really want him and he wants to go then there is nothing we can do about it apart from screwing Tottenham for every last penny. I think it is just paper talk, hopefully.

Buying Chopra but losing Wickham would be pointless and take us back to square one. Hopefully Marcus will look at the long-term picture. If we always sell anyone half decent we'll go nowhere.

^^^^^

I agree... If we are trying to move forward there's no point simply bringing in one decent striker and selling another, one step forward two steps back!

Then again this is just rumours rumours rumours... Until CW is shaking Harry Redknapps Tax dodging hands, I wont take a word of it as truth!
.... well maybe a couple of words

If the lad has already said he wants to say, and we aren't desperate for the money we need to do all we can to keep the lad.

Very much agree with the comment made before. The original Wayne Rooney went for loads more money and lets face it, say we manage to keep hold of him, he plays brilliant next season and we get promoted imagine how much we'd get for him if we were a prem club!

But even then we should be just keeping him until people come in with stupid money offers! If he's that good people will pay the money in the end!

I wouldn't mind either way. 8m pound for an unproven 17 year old is a lot of money, and we've had enough strikers come through the ranks who are the next "rooney, owen" etc fail. If we turned it down, we still have one of the highest thought of young players in English football. Win win situation.

NorwichBlue138 added 02:34 - Jun 9
if they will jump from £5m to £8m why not make them sweat a little harder and make them offer £10m+. too many valuable youngsters have strolled out of PR for buttons, so if Wickham does have to leave, we have to make sure we get our money's worth for him, especially as other teams seem to be vastly inflating their transfer prices.

WickedBlue added 04:18 - Jun 9
He won't go, ME is not stupid, he won't sell and Spurs can stick that £8m where the sun don't shine......

8 million, how about spurs f*ck right off!!!!!

Or we will sell for 8 and player (Gio) to come our way with Connor on loan next season. 4 mil pays for Chopra, the other 4 mil strengthens the rest of the side.

Its so easy!!!! : )

Jesney_Havoc added 05:50 - Jun 9
We won't be able to turn that kind of cash down surely.
