Town Amongst Clubs Linked With Kilkenny
Town Amongst Clubs Linked With Kilkenny
Monday, 6th Jun 2011 21:58

Town are amongst a number of Championship clubs reportedly chasing Leeds midfielder Neil Kilkenny, who is out of contract and available on a free transfer. The Blues, Hull City, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City are all said to be interested in the Australian international.

The 25-year-old, who was previously linked with a move to Town when a Birmingham player in 2007, was born in Enfield but moved to Australia with his family as a child.

Having captained Queensland's representative side, Kilkenny joined Arsenal’s academy but in 2004 moved on to Birmingham without having featured for the Gunners at senior or reserve levels.

After four years, 10 starts, 29 sub appearances and two loan spells at Oldham, the 5ft 8in tall midfielder joined Leeds for £150,000 in January 2008.

Kilkenny has been with the Whites ever since, making 118 starts, playing 26 games from the bench and scoring 11 goals, before turning down the offer of a new contract towards the end of the season, Leeds recently confirming his exit.

Capped by England’s U18s and U20s, and having received calls by the Republic of Ireland at U19 level, Kilkenny committed to Australia, winning caps first with their U23s and then with the senior side, for whom he has now played eight times.

Currently away with his national squad, Kilkenny is said to be waiting until his return to decide on his future, suggesting he is unlikely to have been one of the players who has recently held talks at Portman Road.

Looking at the number of players we need these stories are inevitable. Here's one for tomorrow:
'Town linked with Gazza's return to playing'

Not sure what he's like on the pitch.

Maybe worth a punt on a free.

This "linked with" business is really getting on my nerves. BORING! TEDIOUS! We do need to be building up a now depleted squad. I don't want to start the alarm bells ringing (just yet) but we need new players SOONER rather than later. The club must pull it's finger out and prove it is serious about mounting a decent challenge. Bored with "linked with", I want "have signed"!

prefer someone taller, we've been plagued with tiny midfielders in recent times e.g norris, leadbitter, colback, healy (not tiny, not tall) and I don't think it does us any favours.

25 years old, starting to hit his straps at club level and is also starting to get an opportunity at international level under socceroos new manager. Definately worth a punt as I can only see him get better.

I remember watching us get thrashed by Sheff Utd final day of 09/10 and they looked like a team of fully grown men, big and strong, and we looked like a team of boys. I think we need a taller team, including maybe a tallish new right back instead of peters or edwards.

Have to agree with Garv,
Need physically tall and aggressive players. We often look like minnows in comparison to most towns.
Not saying small people can't play football,- just badly need a mix! (which we haven't got at the moment!)
When we played Norwich this season we really looked out of sorts and they aren't giants....

Don't understand why we didn't sign Buckley from Watford...surely he would have taken us over Brighton?
Great signing for Brighton,-undoubtedly one of the best and most versatile wingers in the Championship.
Was impressed by that Boulassie guy too who signed for Bristol City....
Oh well,- we'll end up with Kilkenny and Nosworthy...neither which I rate....

still at least we are not linked with Tipperary because everybody knows its a long way to there and back' unless you happen to live there.then i can only send my condolences and cheer you up with the fact that at least its not dublin or cork you live in if thats much help.

the tongans certainly know how to tackle, unline most of our team
romulans? aren't they from star trek????
starting to wonder whether i am pessimistic or realistic by saying we have a long road against relegation next season.
what has gone so badly wrong with our club?
last good player out of the door, please switch off the lights

Essentially if they are out of contract we will be linked as it's lazy journalists who know we need players and without games to report need stories to fill their quota.

PJ is an experienced Manager with a track record of finding the odd bargin here and there. Wouldn't want to alert other clubs to potential targets. Also remember guys most contracts run until 30th June so it might be a while before until any freebies in.

I have never dispised someone at Town as much as Simon Clegg. If there was ever a person who had so little of Town at heart it is this man and furthermore, he is totally incompetent!
