Ellington Confirms Town Move
Ellington Confirms Town Move
Tuesday, 21st Jun 2011 10:21

Nathan Ellington has confirmed that he is joining Town today, subject to a medical. TWTD reported earlier that the former Watford and Wigan man was back at the club this morning having previously been at Portman Road for talks last Monday.

Ellington tweeted: “I’m signing for Ipswich today, subject to medical. Should be an Ipswich player by end [after]noon!”

The 29-year-old, who played for Paul Jewell at Wigan, finished last season on loan at Preston, where he scored two goals in seven starts and 11 sub appearances.

The relegated Lilywhites were understood to be keen to sign him on a permanent basis after his release by Watford at the end of the season, however, the Bradford-born frontman ruled out a return to the Lancastrians in a tweet over the weekend: “Won't be going back to Deepdale, I'm afraid. Things were bit complicated for the club which meant it couldn't happen.”

The 5ft 10in tall striker started his career with Walton and Hersham before moving on to Bristol Rovers. Jewell took him to Wigan for £1.2 million in March 2002 where he scored 67 goals in 139 starts and seven sub appearances largely playing alongside Jason Roberts, before moving on to West Brom for £3 million fee in August 2005.

Since signing for Watford for £3.25 million in August 2007, the Bradford-born striker has spent time on loan at Derby County, during Jewell’s spell there as manager, and in Greece with Skoda Xanthi.

Ellington is set to be unveiled at a press conference this afternoon.

3 mins later :D

We've signed a striker with pace.

Can see him being a 'super sub' coming off the bench and scoring / setting up the winning goal. Using his speed against tired legs.

In that case, i want you in training now practicing shooting, one-on-ones, playing off the shoulder of the last man, bending and timing your runs, working the back four and penalties....

Clearly i haven't got much faith in this signing!

Who is going then

Wickham, Scotland, Priskin or Murray?

We now have 6 strikers at the club 7 if you count Carson who can play up front too

Scotland will go i reckon. Obvious choice given age, contract situation, type of player and other interested clubs.

Priskin still has something to offer....and PROVE!

Fantastic news! another great signing (especially on a free!), experienced player who can do the business if he can find form. now ship Scotland out!

Hopefully he can recapture his previous form whilst playing for Mr Jewell.
Welcome aboard Nathan.

err, so then you don't count Carson as a striker. Otherwise you can add Lee Martin and Shane O'Connor as well

good signing i think.... works well outside the box and is faster than Scotland. Scotland and Chopra both fox in the box types of players, if 100% and up for it then Ellington can offer a lot more in the way of creating chances for Chopra. only problem is we still have no height up front with these two......

People are talking about Scotland leaving, Priskin leaving...what about Wickham?
This may be the move PJ wanted before the big move for Wickham.
Carson isn't a striker btw.
Welcome to the club Nathan Ellington,- I think you will do well!
Time to concentrate on signing 2 goalkeepers.....

"Duke, Duke, Duke - Duke of Town, Town, Town" Altogether now... :^D

Welcome aboard, Nathan!

I have a sneaky feeling that he'll be back to his best working for PJ and prove to be a successful signing; also, if Jason Scotland is on his way to Sheff Wed for a fee as rumoured, PJ should be congratulated for a shrewd bit of dealing.

I'd be happy starting next season with Chopra, Wickham, Priskin and Ellington - a good mix of strikers; just need PJ to go out and find some cover for Ingimarsson, a destroyer and a creator for our midfield, and maybe another wideman... (is that being greedy? :^D)
