Town Linked With Move for Watford's Sordell
Town Linked With Move for Watford's Sordell
Tuesday, 12th Jul 2011 06:27

Town are set to offer Watford £800,000 for striker Marvin Sordell, according to a report this morning. Yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that he had made bids for a striker and a winger.

Sordell, 20, was an academy schoolboy with Fulham before moving on to Watford’s youth set-up. Having spent time on loan at Wealdstone and Tranmere, the 5ft 10in tall frontman broke through into the Hornets senior side in 2009/10.

But it was last season when the England U20s cap really started to make his mark in the Championship, scoring 15 goals in 29 starts and 18 sub appearances.

Town fans will remember the Brent-born frontman for scoring Watford’s second goal in the Blues’ 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road last season and also for netting a hat-trick in an FA Youth Cup victory over Town at Portman Road in March 2009.

Elsewhere, the Blues are reported to have made an increased offer to Doncaster for midfielder James Coppinger, the subject of at least one previous bid earlier in the summer.

Paul Jewell recently said that he could make renewed attempts sign the 30-year-old having failed with an initial £300,000 offer early in the summer when he also tried to land Rovers striker Billy Sharp.

15 goals in 29 starts is a cracking return!! But would Watford want to sell..?

Personally dont know too much about sordell but he did score a fair few goals last year... My concern is that id imagine most of them were playing alongside Danny Graham, a target man, we would have 5 strikers, 6 including murray, none of who are going to win much in the air!

As for coppinger i thonk if we have bid again and it gets rejected, id move on!

Ok class let us work this one out -

Connor Wickham: 18 years old + 8 goals last season = £8 million + £4 million in add ons.

Marvin Sordell: 20 years old + 15 goals last season = ................£800,000!!

Good luck PJ!

He is a very talented young striker. If we can get him for less than a million it would be a fantastic bit of business.

Can't see them letting him go for £800,000, but worth a shot. Young, with a good goal ratio.

This would be an ideal signing. We need some youth and hunger to take us forward and into the future. Good return for such a young player!

Watford are a selling club so sure we could get Sordell for a reasonable price. Decent prospect but would need to lose Priskin (swap him for Sordell?) & Scotland & get in a target man.

5ft 10.. umm. We really do need a tall striker.

He has played one England U21 match and scored in France in that match too. Hot prospect I'd say and I have no idea why Watford would even consider selling him for £800K! Still, let's hope a deal can be done.

I agree we still need a target man up front though.

I agree with everything written so far. Not really the big target man we were told we need but fantastic business at £800K. Don't know who Watford have up front at their disposal but would be surprised if they let both Graham and this lad go without having enough strength in depth or a replacement in mind.

Swap with Priskin would not be on the cards. They would not want him back.

Wiki are already showing him as an Ipswich player!

Why only 29 starts last season? He was on fire during the first half of the season but then faded away and was often only a sub after Christmas. Watford and Barnsley look to be seriously weakened this coming season and I predict they'll both struggle

Sounds like a good young prospect and it would be good to target this sort of player.

However I can't see Watford accepting anywhere near £800,000 so this is probably just paper speculation following Jewell's comments from yesterday saying that we're waiting to hear back on two bids.

The various news outlets will be trying to guess and will spend another couple of days speculating that we've bid for all sorts of players.

i don't think P.J is looking for a big target man, we will be playing a style far removed from R.K time at PR.

I see P.J's plan! Old experienced pro's to get us promoted and Cresswell, Sordell etc to keep us up with their future promise.

I trust him.
