Swindon Make Murray Offer
Swindon Make Murray Offer
Friday, 13th Jan 2012 08:57

Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio says his club have made Town an offer to sign on-loan striker Ronan Murray on a permanent basis. The Irishman's spell on loan at the County Ground is up on Saturday.

Di Canio said: “I want to buy him and the offer is a fair amount of money because he is a young, talented player.

“If we can go through with the money we have offered already we will be very happy and he is happy here. We will see after the Rotherham game [on Saturday].”

Speaking earlier in the week when a further loan was mooted, Murray said he'd like to extend his time in Wiltshire: “I’d like to stay. I am playing first team football and the last month and a half has been brilliant - playing games every week.

“I have enjoyed every minute and it is a brilliant club. There are not many more clubs in the country you would want to be at with all the headlines Swindon are getting."

The 20-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has scored two goals in four starts and five sub appearances since joining the Robins in November.

I really hope we're not tempted to sell him, we have to keep hold of promosing youngsters!

"He is a young talented, player"

Yes, he is.

So we need to keep him.

at the end of the day if its a fair price the player will decide if he goes or not

It would be cruel to keep any young player at ITFC at the moment. Jewell out! Clegg out!

Having seen Murray lay a few times for Swindon this year, I think that he is showing enough promise to have a regular place in our match day squad.

He has been playing well in a team that is flying, and he is keeping much more experienced strikers out of the Swindon team.

He would certainly offer much more to our team than Nathan Ellington ever has.

If we were to sell him, that would be another nail in Jewell's coffin. It would go against everything that he said about moving from away from a short-term plan.

Please PJ, do NOT sell him. You do not have to go back very far to see that it would be a huge mistake. Connor Wickham, Jordan Rhodes . . . If Cleggy tries to push it, tell him to pi$$ off!!

Bet he goes- who needs Ronan when we have got Ellington. I genuinely do feel that the signing of NE is the worst thing Jewell has done and cannot understand what this waste of space is doing in our squad. Both Watford and PNE fans knew he was useless.

how about we loan them ellington instead? Keep Murray here as our impact striker from the bench, he could progress from there...but then again maybe Murray wants to stay with a winning team?

I remember last year speaking with afew at the club ( even 18 mths ago) about the strikers we had coming through . Murray was the one they raved about and I did see him afew times , albeit in the ressies , but he does look pretty sharp . This is the type of player we should be bringng on , PJ seems to have aversions to Younger players - Hyam , Whight , Carson - all of whom I think ( opinion) are better than what we have and also a long term solution . We are in a fast descent with old loanees - it aint worked , admit your mistakes and start using the younger players . nothing to lose baby - keep him and carson

Very poor decision if we sell ,he has gained experience continue to do so on loan but definately no permanent deal as for me could be another Rhodes mistake

If the offer is reasonable we should sell. Lets be realistic, he is never going to be good enough for a starting place with us. I understand that fans have an attachment to younger players, but currently we don't have any that are quite good enough to make the step up, Carson aside, perhaps. Keane let go all those who might have been good enough.

My personal opinion is that next season in League One, they will become the future and our only hope would be to turn to the likes of Murray, Hyam, Carson, Whight, Peters etc to get us out of the division, once all the big names players have taken the club down and left, along with PJ!

I maybe being a bit dumb....so please correct me if Imthe left wrong. But don't young players iprove if you play them? Id rather have him playing up front with Carson in midfield then a loan player from Celtic or blackburn. Or a club captain who is not that good.

This would be against all Jewell has been saying about wanting to plan for the future and wanting the young players out on loan just to get experience. I thought he looked sharp, but a little light, whenever we played him and I'd like to see him given a go.

Maybe not this season, but we certainly shouldn't be selling.

Letr's face it, if Swindon have offered a 'good price' it can't possibly be enough for us to say 'that's too good an offer to turn down' so why sell? But then we haven't offered a contract extension yet either...

Ronan is the type of young player that we should be loaning out to gain experience with a view to playing a large part in our future next season onwards.
If Paolo Di Canio can see his potential we can only hope that our manager and staff can as well.
It is not long ago that RK described him as the best finisher in the club, not much chance to prove it behind Ellington and Scotland in the pecking order.
A long term plan for itfc must include the inclusion of our own yoiung players like Ronan.

Swindon are odds on to get promoted to League One, we're looking strong candidates for the drop.

If Di Canio thinks Murray is good enough for League One, so should we.

Selling Murray would be a major mistake.
