West Ham's Baldock on Town Wish List
West Ham's Baldock on Town Wish List
Wednesday, 9th May 2012 23:30

West Ham's Sam Baldock is amongst the strikers on Blues boss Paul Jewell’s summer wish list. The 23-year-old joined the Hammers from the MK Dons last August for a fee reported to be worth £2.75 million with add-ons.

Despite scoring five goals in his first six starts for the Upton Park club, Baldock has found it increasingly hard to break into Sam Allardyce’s side, particularly since the additions of Ricardo Vaz Te and Nicky Maynard in January.

While with West Ham he has made 11 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring those five early goals. For the MK Dons, Aylesbury Vale-born Baldock netted 43 times in 82 starts and 42 games from the bench having come through their youth system.

Due to his lack of opportunities with the Hammers, the 5ft 7in tall striker, whose younger brother George is still with the MK Dons, is likely to be available this summer, either on loan or on a permanent basis. He has three years left on his contract.

The winner of two England caps at the U20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009, Baldock has been on the Blues’ radar for a while. At last November’s Supporters Club AGM, Jewell confirmed that he had been monitored prior to his move to West Ham.

The Blues boss has said that another striker is amongst his summer targets with Tamás Priskin having moved to Alania Vladikavkaz in January and Nathan Ellington set to leave the club.

Not a hope!! N even if we did at 5ft 7 we have chops n Scotland who struggle to win headers!!

Hmmmm, not going to comment on his ability because I've never really seen him play!

However, he does have a prolific record at MK Dons and is at a good age of 23, sort of striker I think we should be signing :)

Not going to happen, why would someone pay £2.75m for someone then sell them a year later for no where near that amount because i'm guessing (hoping) we wouldn't bid anything like that for Baldock!

Thats what he went for, not what he's going for...you muppet.

I'd be happy with this (at a good price), but only if Wickham came in on loan as well, need some presence up front.

Cleggs has already said there would be no £3 million pound signings this season.

So cant see it happening again another close season with player after player being linked with town

5'7"? A giant compared to Maradona at 5'4". Don't recall David Johnson being very tall either, but do remember him having one hell of a scoring rate.

If he was bought for £2.75m a year ago, but hasn't made the cut, then clearly if he is available, the price will be less, particularly if Wetspam get promoted.

West ham fans at work like him despite his limited games. We definitely need one if not two new strikers to give us some options.

Must remember to drop Mancini and Ferguson that they need to buy some big lumps to play up front for them ..... they obviously need one. Arguero and Rooney will obviously need to sold to make way for those additions.
Keep the ball on the ground or the more pessimistic will be moaning 2 games into the new season that our "lump" isn't quick enough, mobile enough and too tall.

trueblueferret...... when i read this , i had the same great memories of a great day and stopping at baldock. I believe i am right in saying, that we wanted to sign a striker from baldock town, a certain Kevin Phillips, we didnt take the gamble, watford did and the rest is history( a real case of the one who got away). I know nothing about this guy being mentioned, but B4 anyone mentions his height again, Phillips is only 5'7 too, and is still a class act at 38, scored 30 goals for sunderland in the prem ( 2000).. And while we are talking about height , a few people on here were Dismissive towards cresswell, because of his height, people who hadnt seen him play, went on to be our best player of the season.

Why find a negative in everystory, just wait and see.....COYB

Too short?

Not if he gets the ball played to his feet.

(Perhaps we could try that)

...and Billy Sharp's quite short and we all wanted him! Not going to post any more today given my bad mood over the impending Ward transfer!!!

Get rid of the gambler and get him in.

Tractorboy24 added 08:43 - May 10
The issue about height isn't because no one under 6 foot can play up front, it's the fact we already have 5'8 Scotland and 5'10 chopra (I think) so this would surely be another striker similar to the 2 we already have?

@Dissboyitfc - it's not that we didn't gamble on Kevin Phillips - he (and more over his wife) didn't want to move to Ipswich.

My ex~pro footballing mate, whose son is also a pro, both hammers, both really rate this guy. When i have seen him he looks brilliant. Would be well pleased if we get him. . . .
