Derby County have denied claims that the Blues have made a bid for striker Steve Davies but Town are understood to have shown interest in the 24-year-old, according to reports in the Midlands this morning. Yesterday, the Blues were said to have tabled an offer of £500,000 but with the Rams targeting a fee of £1 million for the transfer-listed frontman.

Davies was first linked with Town by the national press three weeks ago but rumours that the 6ft 1in tall Liverpudlian would be joining the Blues in the summer have been circulating amongst Derby supporters since early May.

Rams manager Nigel Clough recently revealed that Davies had been transfer-listed having turned down the offer of a new contract due to "a genuine family reason". Davies has a year remaining on his current deal, the Rams having taken up an option on his previous terms.

Blues boss Paul Jewell signed Davies from Tranmere in 2008 when manager at Pride Park for a fee which could have risen as high as £725,000 had various clauses been triggered.

Injuries - including a fractured skull last October - have limited Davies to only 55 starts and 39 sub appearances in his four years with Derby, in which time he has scored 23 goals, 12 of them during 2011/12.

Meanwhile, out-of-contract Dundee United midfielder Scott Robertson, who Scottish sources have strongly linked with the Blues, is back from holiday but says he remains unsure where his future lies, tweeting: “Still don't know yet, [will] find out pretty soon though.”

eaii added 09:50 - Jun 12 No bid oh there is a suprise but no suprise for me because as soon as 500 grand was mentioned I knew straight away it was not us who bid. With all six required players signed by the next season (which I doubt) i bet we still would not have spent 500 grand with all signing fees added together.

Davies has a superb goal record and he's on 24, one feels that if he gets a decent run at this level he could be superb and alongside Chopra with martin and JET, could make for an exciting attack!

Phil is always careful to give some indication whether it's just press rumours or genuine inside info. I like to know who we're being linked with, gives some idea of how the club is perceived from outside, the level of transfer targets we're thought to be looking at. If people on here get over-excited about every player we're linked with by the media (and then bitterly disappointed - or the opposite - when it doesn't materialise), then maybe they ought to think more carefully when reading the articles or just stick to official ITFC press-releases!

Therefore i would think any story that relates to Ipswich Town would be relevant to post on here (regardless of how much truth there is in it). Just cos its on here doesnt mean that TWTD or ITFC are saying its true, and if you dont like it then no one is forcing you to read it are they.

All very interesting this flurry about forwards but I thought most people agreed we needed 2 CBs as a priority - seems all quiet on that front or perhaps PJ is playing his cards close to his chest for once - which I for one wouldn't mind if it ends up with a signing. Gossip is fine but I want to see players at the club who will entertain and win - I didn't invest in a season ticket to tear out what little hair I have left every other week!

It's a bit like the gossip column on BBC, some people love having a read of it, even though they know the majority of it is nonsense, others prefer to avoid it completely. Dozzells_Bobblehat added 12:30 - Jun 12 wobbleswick/maverick - you seem to have fallen into the trap of believing all the links. we dont even know if we are genuinely interested in this guy , so far its all speculation. So to criticise and state we cant afford 500k bids, and that all these deals are falling through is inaccurate. How about we wait and see who and how many signings we have made by the start of the season and then if we havent got enough quality in that would be the point to complain.
