No Davies Bid But Town Interested
No Davies Bid But Town Interested

Derby County have denied claims that the Blues have made a bid for striker Steve Davies but Town are understood to have shown interest in the 24-year-old, according to reports in the Midlands this morning. Yesterday, the Blues were said to have tabled an offer of £500,000 but with the Rams targeting a fee of £1 million for the transfer-listed frontman.

Davies was first linked with Town by the national press three weeks ago but rumours that the 6ft 1in tall Liverpudlian would be joining the Blues in the summer have been circulating amongst Derby supporters since early May.

Rams manager Nigel Clough recently revealed that Davies had been transfer-listed having turned down the offer of a new contract due to "a genuine family reason". Davies has a year remaining on his current deal, the Rams having taken up an option on his previous terms.

Blues boss Paul Jewell signed Davies from Tranmere in 2008 when manager at Pride Park for a fee which could have risen as high as £725,000 had various clauses been triggered.

Injuries - including a fractured skull last October - have limited Davies to only 55 starts and 39 sub appearances in his four years with Derby, in which time he has scored 23 goals, 12 of them during 2011/12.

Meanwhile, out-of-contract Dundee United midfielder Scott Robertson, who Scottish sources have strongly linked with the Blues, is back from holiday but says he remains unsure where his future lies, tweeting: “Still don't know yet, [will] find out pretty soon though.”

> Davies has a superb goal record

I wouldn't say superb, 5 goals in 60 games at Tranmere (1 in 12) and 21 goals in 83 games at Derby (1 in 4). He is young enough to improve though, I agree.

Bluey420 - i see where youre coming from but this isnt an official ITFC news site, for that you want to go here.... www.itfc.co.uk This is a fans run, independent fanzine / forum site for all things ITFC...... i think youre confusing the purpose of each....... theyre markedly different......

itd be like me going to a BMW motorbike shop and buying one, then moaning that it doesnt have 4 wheels like a BMW car does...... if i wanted 4 wheels i should have gone to the right place in the first instance......

When I was in a Pub once, i looked at a rough Ginger hair girl who walked past me. My friends "linked"me with her for ages and all i did was looked.

Perhaps, Jewell is looking at the wrong players, idiots are adding two and two together to get 56 and the story makes it on here.

It would seem that for every ten stories or "links", one of them has some accuracy. i for one will count back to Hewitt and then see what the tenth story is and wait for that player to come to Town.

Suggests Jewell puts dark glasses on.

If we didnt mention any links on here, i'm sure there would also be a few muppets moaning because we seem to not be after anyone! Just goes to show it's a lose- lose situation with town and twtd.

When are people going too understand I'm not getting worried or bothered we have only signed 1 player: I'm not stressed or getting frustrated: unlike other posts I don't mention or criticise anyone else on here: Just don't see the point in Ipswich been linked with x y z when we have no interest in that player

@booble If we are going to go anywhere next season we need a few players. If you want to encourage a player to buy into ITFC you have to show some intent.
You have to show we are investing in a competitive team.

If you are a club that is seen to buy a few players (see C Palace, Leeds) early other players just might think you are going somewhere, and buy in into the club. Sticking with what we've got will mean we'll end up with the same result as last year.

A few players no-one else wanted in August and mid table to lower leagues position.Start signing now.

Twtd is a great website and it's the best source of ITFC news going!
Davies looks like a player that would fit in well with our team so I would like to see him in blue next season. The young midfeilder that Sonko recommended also looks promising and I hope the roumers that we are after Ricardo Fuller is true - he's quaility!

Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has been included in Great Britain's provisional 35-man squad for this summer's Olympic Games.

Echoing Sindre, bluey420 you do realize these rumours aren't being made up by TWTD don't you, its the papers. Phil is simply telling us what has been reported.

Agree with Maverick it's centre backs we should focus on even if a striker would be useful.

Do we really need any more players?
Only kidding....
Three more attacking midfielders and two strikers should do it!
Score more goals then the opposition, who needs a defence!!!

I find it really hard to believe we are constantly being linked with various strikers - can anyone not see we need a strong defence not a better strikeforce I mean its not like chops is that bad is it? Please please sort the defence out!!!!...oh and stop going on about new strikers!!!

@walberswick: You do realise Leeds and Crystal Palace have each signed the same number of players as Ipswich have so far this summer - one. We aren't falling behind.

To all you realists out there . . . . Dont let facts and real world situations get in the way of a moronic rant by the usual suspects. . . . .

Guthrum - you took the words right out of my mouth. Wobbleswick i could be wrong and stand to be corrected but think Palace have only signed Ward and Leeds only Pearce.
Its the same every year, i agree it would be nice to sign people early but be honest if you were a player/agent would you rush into a deal? No , you would wait and see what offers you get .

Dozzells_Bobblehat added 01:19 - Jun 13
Urchin - McCarthy has been joined in the squad by some forward from Huddersfield. Rhodes i think the name was . Nice one Roy.

Could you just imagine the uproar on here, if Phil didn't report a link and the next day we signed the linked player ? Think about it. Also, I think sometimes reading the whole article helps.
