The crisis in social care seems to be solved 13:16 - Feb 8 with 1026 viewsBOjK

All you need is
1) A conservative run council and
2) To get them to threaten a referendum on increasing council tax to pay for social care costs

and hey presto! You are quids in.

Surrey CC now saying no deal with government. Either they have found the money needed from another source, which seems unlikely, or they are intending significant cuts in planned services.

Can understand the government not wanting this to go to a referendum as doubt it would get sufficient support.

I'd vote in favour of it here. People want every service going and they want it to a high standard but they don't want to pay for it.

We are going to have to pay more in taxes. The money isn't going to grow on trees. All that seems to be done is people sit around talking about it. We need money. We're going to have to pay more.

Truly impaired.

Weasel words. "No deal".

I'm quite sure there was no contract. I'll bet you there was an understanding.

Money should come from central funds not local taxes so would vote against it if it was to happen here. The distribution of the elderly isn't even across the country and should be funded nationally.

It will invariably be those in the most worst-off areas who suffer the most with a double whammy of increased council tax and terrible service.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Easy to play politics with the needs of other people, isn't it?
