Absolutely, and people tend to forget all this when complaining about licence fees.

Detectorists has been mentioned again today, but also the likes of Taboo and Peaky Blinders and Cuckoo etc have all have all involved big name stars and must cost a fortune to produce. And they're produced well.

Maybe there is a fair claim for them to continue to be available thereafter, but that aside.
