They're not storing the photos on the DB they're storing a hash of them. It's a decent idea tbh.

Indeed, assuming they are hashed appropriately, this is not a terrible idea.

That said, I'd be interested in more specifics, as you could just alter the photo in some manner to change the hash, then upload it anyway. Would have thought it would be quite easy to get around.

What's going to happen to the originals of images they're sent? Somebody going to burn the hard drive after conversion? Large organisations are not always most careful with sensitive data. And that's without the possibility of someone collating and leaking them for money.
