Good graphics card, good memory Pissing about online and watching videos? - Get a tablet Using Office for report writing and note taking - MS Surface Pro, or equivalent Programming and Cyber security - Have a word with her, get out before she gets in [Post edited 8 Sep 2019 13:27]

I want to counter that with "Why mac book" but it would be seen as I am taking a Pro windows approach, I am not

Interesting that you go with a tablet for graphics etc...food for thought for Miss Slave. I didn't even know you could add a keyboard to a tablet. Is the MS Surface pro good for graphic stuff and report writing?

I am genuinely impressed with the Surface pro for a portable school solution, and many digital artists give it good reviews for art, but there is a big emphasis on "or equivalent" though. (16gb Lenovo Yoga is popular also) I did mean tablet more for mindless browsing activities rather than art, although digital art pads are incredibly popular now a days. If graphics work is going to be done though, it is essential you aim for a good GPU and a barest of bare minimum of 8gb RAM inho. [Post edited 8 Sep 2019 13:57]

For anything a 14 year old wants to do, almost certainly. There are a few professional programs you can only get on MacOS but I doubt they would be relevant.

Indeed, arguably Macs can have an edge for specialist use, but really for kids in school, they are little more than a fashion statement, and pretty over priced in many respects.

Really, if it was me in that position, I would be looking at this, although it is expensive, it is revered. Does not include the stylus and kb though, so there is that too. That said, a lot really does boil down to what she's going to use it for, if digital art is not going to be part of it, then it changes the type of things you'd be looking for. https://www.johnlewis.com/microsoft-surface-book-2-intel-core-i5-processor-8gb-r I am genuinely not into 'conventional' laptops any more as they usually always fail due to heat related issues, where as tablets do not have moving parts as such, so, for me, 4 years+ life with acceptable performance degradation, it would be a big ask for a school bag conventional lap top.
