Has anyone on here used a cranial osteopathy on a new born? 00:47 - Mar 3 with 7155 viewsdavblue

We had a girl 4 days and at night she's been awful, wont settle down at all and tonight she's been screaming in pain since 19:30 and it sounds awful, I've not heard a baby like that before.

Just wondering if anyones used an osteopath as it can help colic and traumatic births apparently.

Is she suffering with trapped wind?

Had a similar issue with our now 5 month old son, hated to be put down on his back so was held constantly.

We ended up giving him some Infacol which seemed to help him pass the wind, as he got better at breastfeeding he seemed to get less gassy too.

She’s crying and screaming, legs up tensing her tummy muscles clenched fists.

It’s our 2nd one, midwife came today as part of the usual check up and wasn’t overly concerned but colic isn’t something that they know how to treat.

It's a long shot... but does gluten transfer to breast milk....if so maybe get mum to go gluten free .

Also a longshot - maybe she's picked up that she was born into a lifetime of watching ITFC ...

Hope that you get to, err, the bottom of it all & that things are soon better for her & all of you Davblue.

I personally think you would have to be mad to let anyone near your new borns skull when it’s not properly formed and has gaps. I mean what is the rationale and evidence for gentle skull massage ?

Anyway have you tried formula top ups ? One of my newborns was like this and was simply not latching properly and hungry.

You have my sympathies those cries are genetically designed to tear your heart to pieces, it won’t last forever and congratulations to you and Mrs Dav

That was my instinctive reaction too. When I searched, could only find one small trial that's been done - https://bestbets.org/bets/bet.php?id=1799

FWIW I know zilch about newborns, but had cranial osteopathy myself many years ago in middle age. Didn't feel at all comfortable whilst it was being done (tho not overtly painful). Obviously anecdotal feedback but it didn't work for me.
