I’m moving house in the next couple of days (long story) and, with the current situation meaning an engineer’s visit is unlikely, I’ve found myself looking at mobile broadband options.

I’ve come across a couple from Three that seem to offer good value; essentially unlimited broadband for £20-£25 a month. One option is a portable personal modem, whilst the other is a more traditional ‘plug-in’ modem; both seem to run off a SIM card.

Has anyone got any experience with these sort of things? I’ll be moving to NR5 8QR, so coverage shouldn’t be an issue, merely the speeds I should be able to get.

Or is it worth waiting it all out and getting a hard-wired connection once people are allowed in my flat again?

I've got a 4Gee box that I use for work and it's good apart from an annoying niggle where you have to reset it if it's dormant for a while.

Having said that, a mate of mine has recently moved and they managed to get connected to the net reasonably trouble free. The router got sent out and it was a simple plug into the wall ox (activate) and go. Give your supplier a call and see what the lead in is for conection. It's normally a simple reroute in the street pillar (I think)

All the best and I hope the move goes well.

I used to work with the guy who runs this and he does a lot of 4G broadband installations, especially in Norfolk, I am not sure if broadband speeds are generally low there but a lot of his work is to transfer to 4G as hard wired is very slow and unusable to work from home. He does a survey to check signal and you will see exactly what speed you will get, he often gets amazing speeds. Worth a call to see what he can offer at what price, I have no idea what the cost would be.

I got a 4Gee box after recommendation on here - and it was a very bad idea in the end. I got it before the whole working from home thing happened. Only went for 60GB and we soon found we were running out of data very quickly and had to do multiple top-ups. Ended up very expensive.

Got an old phone and put an unlimited SIM in it as suggested by Herbi, which is cheap at £20 a month... however it stops and needs refreshing every few hours, which is a nightmare if you're on a conference call when it happens.

Virgin is pre-installed here so think we might just go with that. Should've done that all along, but you live and you learn.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.
