What type of footballer were you or still are? 19:27 - Apr 10 with 3102 views | MattinLondon | Just wondering what position various posters played - or if you’re still playing what position do you still play. Also which Town player you’d like to think you compare yourself to? I was a right-back who could also play right mid. I would like to think of myself as an attacking Wilnes, Tarricco type of player. But in reality I was more a poor mans Tony Dining.
What type of footballer were you or still are? on 19:29 - Apr 10 with 2179 views | Guthrum | Rubbish centre back, last pick in the drop-outs team. Don't think we've ever had a player bad enough for me to compare myself to.

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 19:36 - Apr 10 with 2154 views | WD19 | Was a Gary Neville type right back. Good engine, no great pace. Cynical. Had to jack it in after having my leg broken in 3 places by a tackle that arrived about a week late to my standing leg.
What type of footballer were you or still are? on 19:37 - Apr 10 with 2150 views | Dubtractor | Winger/Attacking full back. Either side of the pitch and very 2 footed, good crosser of the ball, regular goalscorer. Special skill was, and still is, an ability to smack the ball really bloody hard. Highest level was Woodbridge Town reserves for 3 or 4 seasons, prob could have got near to first team if I'd stuck at it, but it was all way too serious for me. I'm 44 now though and so am a 44 year old version of that, on a 6 a side pitch. Phil Ham and ITFC Forever have faced this fearsome prospect fairly regularly. [Post edited 10 Apr 2020 19:55]

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 19:41 - Apr 10 with 2130 views | Lord_Lucan | I played in three positions for three different teams Although every manager will disagree - in my mind I was a/ Paul Mariner centre forward with my elbows bashing a defender and scoring goals for fun b/ Clive Woods the silky left winger skinning defenders with ease c/ The worst left back you have seen who used to resort to fouling everyone.

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 19:43 - Apr 10 with 2119 views | GeoffSentence | Right back, could also fill in at left back. Slow, couldn't kick, couldn't tackle, couldn't head a ball. But on the plus side, I could just keep on going, could pick a pass and occasionally, just occasionally I would accidentally do something brilliant.

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 19:43 - Apr 10 with 2113 views | Bluefish | Kids football CM. Started adult football at 14 and played RM for years with time at CM and CF mixed in. Eventually played in CAM role at my peak as team played 532. I could/would play every position on the pitch though and would regularly cover and CH and keeper. I was never a fan of full back. 5'10 but my main strength was my heading and vision and I always scored goals, just massively lacked any real pace for a better career. Couple of years at Ridgeons level but never really got going, lots of years in senior leagues and high junior leagues

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 19:51 - Apr 10 with 2086 views | PJH | A long time ago I usually played midfield or as a defender. I liked a tackle in the days when you were still allowed to tackle. I did once score all three goals for a Sunday morning team in a 3-3 draw although I was not actually registered to play for them at the time.

Isthmian league is what I watch these days. It’s good fun. A man with pace at that level is king.

Slow lazy midfielder who couldnt tackle or head the ball, but had quick feet and an eye for a pass. Rarely left the centre circle.

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 20:03 - Apr 10 with 2036 views | bluefunk | Centre midfield, for most of my SIL ‘career’ (Div 1 or Premier reserves) mostly attacking, then when I moved to Essex, centre forward, then centre half for clubs in the Intermediate league. Played 20 years and a further 7 in a midweek league finally gave up when my knee gave out at 44. I would love to think I could have been a poundshop John Wark, especially in the season I scored 24 goals from midfield, but I wasn’t even that good! But the memories......
What type of footballer were you or still are? on 20:15 - Apr 10 with 2003 views | judespiveyg | My best position is left-back, as I'm quick and love a tackle, and I'm happy to have the ball at my feet. I've played most of my football there, occasionally as a right back. Last couple of years I've played a lot in centre midfield, in a predominantly defensive roll, (lots of tackling and energy). I've occasionally played on the wings due to pace. I would say my style of play is most comparable to Tristan Nydam's. (Obviously a much, much downgraded version). All action, sticks a boot in, have to compensate for relatively small stature.

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 20:46 - Apr 10 with 1920 views | StochesStotasBlewe | Goalkeeper at school and in my teens. Played for the college team and we won the Surrey Wednesday League and cup double. To be fair though, the entire back 4 played Southern League standard so barely had anything to do. Being a short arse, would probably be a very poor Laurie Sivell. Played as a centre half/sweeper into my late 20,s in the Sunday League, but for a laugh and a few beers afterwards more than taking it seriously. Was pretty crap really, so Mark Fish.

What type of footballer were you or still are? on 21:55 - Apr 10 with 1855 views | J2BLUE | I was ok down the local park but not great in actual games. My problem was I could imagine doing things that I just didn't have the talent to back up. The way I pictured my perfect through ball had no similarity to the tame pass straight to their defender which was the reality. Mind of Messi, talent of a pissed Jonathan Douglas on rollerskates in the dark.

Some of that sums my game up, I could see what needed to be done (still do) but was not good enough to actually do it. I even remember once trying to hit what would have been a defence splitting pass on the half volley to someone breaking clear well ahead of me and to my left but the ball actually got sliced off to my right. As that was probably about 45 years ago it made an impression on me and IF I had connected with that ball as intended there is no telling how my football career might have gone.
